The prime minister is yet to pick up the phone to Winston Peters after his tirade towards a Chinese-born MP in Parliament last week, saying he will talk to the foreign minister "at some point".

Winston Peters is going to apologise for his anti-Chinese racism much like Andrew Little has about his.
The Waitangi Tribunal's appropriately scathing report about the government's plans to strip Treaty clauses from legislation can, to some extent, be summed up as 'People titled "The Honourable" acting dishonourably' forms.justice.govt.nz/search/Docum...
bit sick of the responses, including from the Race Relations Commissioner, characterising outright unhinged racism from on high that attacks migrants' rights to political participation, as unseemly, inappropriate, bad manners, undiplomatic etc rather than fundamentally damaging to our democracy
Not to defend Melissa Derby but I went looking out of curiosity and she has given comment in this piece. But certainly I’d expect to see commentary from Tika Tangata soon. www.1news.co.nz/2026/07/30/c...
The 'Inv-Asian' migration wave of the 90s was dominated by nuclear family units. To be an Asian kid in the 90s like Lawrence (or me, though I was born here) was to grow up isolated & in the shadow of hatred and violence instigated by a guy who is currently the Deputy PM still doing the same thing.
Everyone knows people who either have or want to tell random Asians to "go back to where they came from". Heck, you've probably said it or thought about saying it yourself. #NewZealandIsRacistAsFuck
Winston Peters likes to lecture people on how they should respect NZ's rules and values. He should be very glad he is entitled to NZ citizenship by birth. If he wasn't, he might find he failed the character test for NZ residency. www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/#3...
Kia ora @greens.org.nz What support is being given to Lawrence Xu-Nan regarding the racist abuse he faced yesterday in the House? Thanks.

Look mate, "Dear You" may not be about the Cantonese migrants who came to New Zealand, but fuck off with trying to be the guardian of what of a community you are not actually a direct member of.

"They would write only a few simple words, such as 'I'm safe, don't worry about me'. If they were writing to their wives, they might say, 'I'm still here, don't remarry'.” Like the letters it describes, this beautiful story conveys far more than its brevity suggests: www.rnz.co.nz/news/chinese...

A surprise Chinese box-office hit that has been screening in Auckland this month has documented the rich history of remittance letters that migrants once sent to their families back home.
