It’s disgusting that Rep legislators like him don’t have an iota of humanity for the fact we saw our neighbors die, children ripped from families, racial profiling at bus stops, & people observing peacefully brutalized. it’s not about politics, it’s just the facts of suffering endured by a people.

Here’s GOP State Rep. Walter Hudson making fun of Minnesotans for being fearful of ICE, defending January 6th, and blaming Renee Good and Alex Pretti for “putting themselves in harms way.”

“At its best, America serves as a haven of individual liberties in a world too often full of tyranny and cruelty. We abandon that ideal when we subject our neighbors to fear and chaos. The court expects this Order will be complied with in all respects.”

It is also essential to emphasize that the refugees impacted by this Order are
carefully and thoroughly vetted individuals who have been invited into the United States
because of persecution in the countries from which they have come. They are not
committing crimes on our streets, nor did they illegally cross the border. Refugees have
a legal right to be in the United States, a right to work, a right to live peacefully —and
importantly, a right not to be subjected to the terror of being arrested and detained without warrants or cause in their homes or on their way to religious services or to buy
groceries. At its best, America serves as a haven of individual liberties in a world too often
full of tyranny and cruelty. We abandon that ideal when we subject our neighbors to fear
and chaos.
The Court expects that this Order will be complied with in all respects.

I've written this blogpost on ICE protest chants & songs, w/ a large section of transcriptions of singing at protests by faith leaders and the Singing Resistance. It also includes songs about ICE agents' perceived masculinity issues and new songs protesting ICE. medium.com/@norikomanab...

The US granted visas to Jews but only allowed 30,000 in from Germany a year. You had to wait for your number to come up. Meet Robert Smallbones. An unassuming British diplomat who 'hacked' this system so effectively (saving 48 THOUSAND Jews) the UK government kept his scheme secret for decades /1 🧵

old couple (Robert and his wife Inga), dressed in smart clothes. both look unassuming and like they could be anybodies' grandparents.

Another element is that even Jews who scraped together the cash and documents to flee were often refused entry by ‘safe’ nations, including the USA and U.K. A lot of Americans are not eligible for foreign long term visas.

We live in St Paul, Minnesota; TONIGHT reports coming from multiple sources that ICE is staging in our grocery store’s old parking lot, going door to door in adjacent neighborhoods weapons drawn. At this point the Civil War movie seems more reality, and current events are the fiction. SMH.

Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.

I went to the protest in Highland Park, St. Paul. There was good crowd energy and signs including ’No Kings’ and ’The Vocal Minority Does Not Speak For Me.’ My wife is out of town, she was at a far larger one in Manhattan! Let’s do this again soon.

Sometime in the 11th Century, viking mercenaries carved runes in the shoulder of this ancient Greek lion statue. It’s difficult to translate, but they say something like “We won and now we’re carving trash talk on your lion.” So at least some vikings knew what lions were. [5/9]

I’m sad to hear that the great musician Roy Haynes has passed on, but grateful that he lived such a long creative life and left such a rich recorded legacy. What an inspiration.

Four CDs by the great drummer Roy Haynes, who passed away today at 99.
