Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman's veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn't been one since. That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation. Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

I can’t believe that UNL would need to cut four dept and merge other programs just to save 27M! Their operating budget is a billion dollars. They could have just asked every dept/office/program to cut 2.7%!

I found some discrepancies in the results produced by code that I recently wrote and code that I wrote 10-15 years ago. So it's a me vs me situation, and I'm not sure who to trust! 😆

I was on a zoom call where an LLM trained on ChatGPT4 accepted an arithmetic error. It was a sum of 4 numbers. Correct answer was 60, and it accepted an answer of 61. 🙃 Keep using your calculators, folks!

Help appreciated! I'm looking for an education journal that publishes illustrations of statistical methods. It could be teaching corner for education researchers. It could be a case study. Methods are not new, but we discuss algorithmic bias in education. Any ideas?

Just had a grant canceled. It longer aligns with agency priorities. Know what it aligns with? The agencies priorities when we wrote and were awarded the grant! I didn’t know I needed a time machine to do science.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but any govt official who violates someone's constitutional rights -- and is acting outside the scope of their lawful authority -- can be PERSONALLY liable in a civil suit. ICE officers. Cabinet members. White House staffers. Even the president.
