A really funny complaint about the Zohran discount grocery store idea is that non-poor people could use it when there’s a grocery store half a mile from my grocery store that has everything cost 20% more that rich people go to because they don’t want to shop with normal people.

This is an excellent primer on the brutal history of post-13th amendment prison labor. As the need for workers to do backbreaking work continues to increase, this is only going to get worse. You better believe this is part of why the administration keeps boasting about new prison construction.

Wildfire smoke from a trifecta of catastrophic wildfires will roll in Tuesday and could cause the air quality to be unhealthy and reduce visibility.

The Arctic Circle just reached a temperature that once seemed almost impossible for such a frozen region: above 100°F, or 38°C … a shocking first … fragile regions are rapidly changing. Sometimes one number can tell a much bigger story … climate change is no longer distant. It’s here. It’s now.

"as any good metascientist should recognise: there are incentives here. To attract ‘metascience venture capitalist’ money or excite the current federal science leadership, it pays to make bold, sensational claims & discredit past work." Good post on why relying on megadonors won't save US science.
