New preprint from the lab! Led by @martingell.bsky.social . There is something for everyone: brain-behavior prediction, latent variable modeling, test-retest reliability. 🧠📈📊 "Disentangling Brain-Psychopathology Associations: A Systematic Evaluation of Transdiagnostic Latent Factor Models"

Martin Gell@martingell.bsky.social · 5mo ago

🚨 New preprint alert! 🚨 Transdiagnostic latent factor models of psychopathology are widely assumed to improve brain-behaviour associations. So we decided to test this directly and found that they don't. A short 🧵 Link: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... 1/10

Broad peer review is crucial for a healthy scientific literature, but neuroscientists turn down review requests too often. Simple math suggests that small groups of scientists can significantly bias the literature, writes @jvoigts.bsky.social. #neuroskyence www.thetransmitter.org/publishing/l...

We're excited to be recruiting an NIH funded postdoc to work in the Coop lab at UC Davis. We're specifically interested in candidates who are want to work at the intersection of human genetics, GWAS, and population genetics modeling. Please RT

The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember: - Organized a city wide general strike - Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence - Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE - Flipped public opinion against ICE

Frey: "This notion of inflammatory comments -- c'mon guys. I dropped an F bomb, they killed someone. Which one of those is more inflammatory? I'm going with the killing somebody."

🚨🚨🚨 The Subjectivity Lab is looking for a lab manager! The position is available immediately. We want someone who can help coordinate our large sample fMRI study, plus other behavioral work. Because *gestures at everything* the job was approved only now (ends in June 2026). Great opportunity! 🧵 1/4

We’re back in the lab to show you how the new bus network came to life - from public input to design breakthroughs. It’s time for the new network to do what it was built to do: deliver faster, more frequent, and more reliable service!

Anyone who has ever gotten an NIH review knows that NIH review is extremely rigorous---arguably, rigorous to a fault, because there isn't enough money to fund all the amazing research being done, so you basically have to guarantee it will succeed to get funded. That's not how science should work.

Republican Senator Katie Britt: We need to create a system "where the beat idea wins... This is our opportunity to make a dollar go further and to make it have a greater impact." (NIH already generates $2.56 for every $1 spent it spends on research.)
