OK. Since I'm a librarian and I must ORGANIZE ALL THE THINGS, I took all the titles mentioned by @tressiemcphd.bsky.social, @ali-alkhatib.com, and the Library Freedom Project and put them in a single list on bookshop.org: bookshop.org/wishlists/53.... (I did not coin "data politics," Tressie did.)

A dramatic downbeat painting, in style somewhere between cubism and fauvism, of a balding white man in smart suit with bow tie, head and shoulders only, looking left, with a rather worried expression.
The painting is made of large blocks of blue yellow and purple, there are almost organic shapes building up the head and shoulders, clad in their blue suit white shirt and purple tie, which have a sculptural quality.
The background is an acidic lemon yellow with blue and green stripes

Hi y’all—we haven’t used Substack for a minute, and we need to say no to invitations to participate in posts (interviews, features, etc). Leaving this here so folks know why! 📚💙 We love small presses and their authors!

Screenshot from email:

We actually left Substack as a press because of the platform's continued support of white supremacist and anti-Semitic content. (We now use Beehiv, which offered an easy migration of our posts.) So l think we need to say no, as we continue to divest as best we can from platforms whose values don't align with ours. I recognize this is tricky and laborious work!

interesting framing of this, a thing we (gen x and millennials) joke about, but I've been teaching college freshman for years and their relationship to computers vs what the world expects them to just know how to do intuitively is really a thing!

If, like me, you love 1990s Web sites, back when the internet wasn't enshittified by Big Tech yet, have a look at Wiby, a Web 1.0 search engine. Click on "Surprise me…" for random discoveries, often personal Web pages about obscure niche subjects, but sometimes you find a hidden gem… wiby.org

Wiby - Search Engine for the Classic Web

Wiby is a search engine for older style pages, lightweight and based on a subject of interest. Building a web more reminiscent of the early internet.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Before the Moon Falls Collage made from 1960s Vogue and Women’s Realm magazines, Will’s cigarette & Brooke Bond tea cards, 1960s wallpaper, felt tip, watercolour & acrylic marker

A colourful collage made of 1960s and 70s books, magazines, wallpaper and cigarette cards featuring two white female models in 60s style drawn over in a combination of Warhol-esque colours and psychedelic patterns of stars and shapes emerging from clouds, and a skull beneath striped leopard pattern wallpaper with a drawing of sort of bowel like shape under a photo of some sausages with an eyeball drawn among them
