We’re not meant to live in boxes. There’s no earthly reason for a plumber to be ignorant of history or philosophy or the duties inherent in citizenship. What is generally taught should not be crafted only as a deep dive for the initiates. No one should come away believing learning is optional.

“Now we have no more cookies to eat,” said Toad sadly. “Not even one.” “Yes,” said Frog, “but we have lots and lots of will power.” “You may keep it all, Frog,” said Toad. “I am going home now to bake a cake.”

Listen. I spent more than a decade as a theatrical technician, rigging stages, hanging lights, flying scenery, etc. The number of times I have dropped anything on a stage with performers on it is zero. The number of times I’ve dropped something that might’ve killed someone is zero. This is major.
The stage is falling apart at the rehearsal for Freedom 250's July 4th celebration.
Sorry I was absent from my job as the Baby Healthcare Slasher. I had depression for reasons that I’m sure are entirely unrelated to that. Anyways back to my job giving everyone infectious diseases and driving teenagers to suicide.
When AI boosters say "oh this is democratizing access to the arts" they don't mean it's democratizing the ability to make art but rather that they think it's allowing people with no particular skill to create pictures they'll get social media likes for.

objectively very funny that all the republicans crying about talarico eating a potato and egg breakfast taco have already pledged their undying loyalty to an enfeebled new yorker who survives on diet coke and the phantom of the opera soundtrack. not that it matters. not that anything at all matters
People don't long for "inconvenience." They long for permanence. And though streaming services may be convenient, people are waking up to the fact that we are paying rent-seeking middle men month after month for things we will never actually own.
People are pining for old technologies—CD players, VCRs, Walkmans. What’s behind our longing for inconvenience? www.newyorker.com/culture/essa...

Students, if you’re thinking about dropping a note to that teacher or professor about what their class/project/mentorship has meant to you, but you worry it will be cringe or cheesy, let me just tell you they will coast on the fuzzy feelings prompted by that note for months, if not years

It’s incredible how much our culture, from music to art to publishing to journalism, is saturated with people who had wealthy parents who supplemented their income as neoliberalism flatlined wages and cost of living priced others out and who had their careers artificially boosted in the online era.
