The @PANYNJ opened the South Walk, expanding access for pedestrians and cyclists who use the George Washington Bridge, the world's busiest bridge. The North Walk opening in 2023 already led to more use - ~2,700 people walked/cycled per weekday in 2025, up from 1,700 in 2018.

Syracuse is tearing down the I-81 viaduct that split its city for decades and replacing it with a street grid that reconnects the neighborhoods the highway cut apart. If Syracuse can rethink its highways, so can NYC.

More chaos in New Jersey. When will Democrats in Trenton take notice? 6 teens injured by someone driving a large pickup truck crashed into a fence and the sidewalk, trapping one of the teens under the truck. The trauma these kids must be going through www.nj.com/news/2026/10...

NYC is running away from what is obviously needed - rethinking freight. This highway needs to be replaced with at-grade light rail, low speed car lanes, and new trucking alternatives. Water and rail should be used for the big stuff, and then move materials onto the little guys for last mile.

Mayor Mamdani and his transportation commissioner, Mike Flynn, have suggested that it was a mistake for the city to build the BQE 70 years ago. Despite this, they are planning to restore the BQE, and build a temporary highway above the Brooklyn Bridge. youtube.com/shorts/m3Al8...

“We urge the mayor and his administration to consider more fiscally prudent and transformative alternatives that don’t entrench Robert Moses’ failed urban highway experiments at the expense of our communities.”

Mayor Mamdani's new $4 billion plan to rebuild the BQE's aging "triple cantilever" stretch would cement the Robert Moses-era infrastructure in place for another half century. Experts say there's another way. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/08/25/m...

The BQE replacement project is a misuse of public funds that preserves a status quo with little benefit to New Yorkers at great expense. See our full statement:

In Jersey City asthma rates can be tracked based on neighborhood proximity to a highway, and yet transportation, health, environmental departments, and even environmental groups do not prioritize fighting highway expansions and transportation policies to address air quality. tinyurl.com/7xc2z37y

This stopped me in my tracks. An independent study by @qmul.bsky.social has found that after ULEZ was introduced, children’s lungs grew faster in Central London and have now caught up with children outside of the capital. Incredible.

Whenever you hear “modernize” a highway, just picture a car saying it. “Substandard shoulders, tight curves and closely spaced interchanges have created insufficient weaving lengths” = wahhh drivers have to pay attention and slow down 😢 Also? Bigger shoulders = future “flex lanes” for more cars.
