Lifted pickups are extremely dangerous. Their blind zones are enormous, and they can crush anyone or anything in their path. Keep in mind: Lift kits fall under state jurisdiction. State legislators and regulators can restrict them, or even ban them completely.

I stopped at a red light on a road with no bike lanes, typical in Honolulu. A driver in a lifted pickup pulled up behind me, leaned out the window, and yelled, "Hey buddy, get the fuck out of my way." I promptly got on the sidewalk and waited for the green light. Cars turn people into sociopaths.

My favorite proposed Meadowlands trails access project is the long-standing plans to connect the Tonnelle Ave HBLR station to the Meadowlands Exposition Center and the surrounding commercial district. Increase HBLR access & ridership and provide a missing link between Secaucus and North Hudson.

Does the Meadowlands have to be a bifurcated island of wetlands versus sports complex? The Regional Plan Association says no — and presents a vision for a walkable campus that improves flood resiliency, expands trails and connects it to surrounding communities. Is it feasible? More in my story.

This is all a matter of political will power to do big things. It would be an amazing legacy for Gov. Sherrill, improving transit, reducing car use, increasing climate resiliency, and so obviously creating lots and lots of good jobs. We need this kind of thinking all over the state. Props to RPA!

This is infuriating. We've had two horrendous serious crashes with trucks on Jersey City streets in the last 12 months, yet our department of infra tells us they are handicapped by state law. I'm pretty state will say we can't do anything without federal changes, and we're back to square one.

New GAO report examines how driver blind spots endanger pedestrians and cyclists—and asks why USDOT has done nothing about it. www.gao.gov/products/gao...

it's fucking insane that so many people get away with hiding their license plates so that they can get away with running red light cameras and cops mostly don't care (I'm sure some of them do on their personal vehicles too). like this is something where broken windows policing actually makes sense.
