23rd century kids are going to take US history tests with questions like “how many years after Obama left office did it take the Republican Party to stop running against Obama” and the answer will be something like “150”

the people who never shut up about “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (which is mostly just … accurately describing Trump’s behavior) have never recovered from their absolute mental emotional physical spiritual sexual existential and sociopolitical breakdown after one (1) Black person got to be president

Catherine zeta-jones is doing a Welsh accent in her new show and I looked it up and apparently that is her real accent?????? I always thought her voice sounded a bit weird and I never realized it’s because *her entire career she’s never used her real accent*. It is not a subtle accent!

Catherine Zeta-Jones Reveals She Used Her Real Accent for First Time in New TV Show

Catherine Zeta-Jones—who grew up in Wales—shared that she uses her real accent for the first time in her new series Kill Jackie, which premieres on Prime Video Oct. 2.

My favorite chocolate is Dove milk chocolate. I used to enjoy the fun positive messages in each Dove Promise. But at some point the messages went from positive to assuming you have problems. Now, they REALLY get on my nerves. I eat the chocolates, but try not to read the messages. An example:

You're eating this while hiding from your kids, aren't you?

My first zine hit the streets in 1992; I always just gave it away. Still blogging for kicks. Like I said, I just like to do fun, cool shit that’s interesting to me & if anybody wants to join in, 🙌🏻👍🏻. Maybe it’s time to go back to the old magicks. To be clear I’m not gonna be giving books away lol 😉

Part of what is so frustrating is they are so opaque about what they are or are not using AI for, and much of publishing was opaque even before this! I just wanna do fun cool shit and I do have book ideas … I think maybe I just do them gremlin style. I dunno. None of us are getting rich either way.🤷🏻‍♀️

As everybody who knows this industry understands, there are pluses & minuses to every publishing model. And forcing really smart, committed people to use tools that make everything worse, and not actually increasing their pay or bettering their working conditions is tipping me toward enngghhhughh 👎🏻

Among many things that are a huge bummer re all this AI crap, people in publishing have been overworked & burned out for so goddamn long. And we know that bosses are not going to give rank and file workers these so-called tools to lighten their workload. We all know that’s some bullshit, as always.

My next book is contracted with a Big 5 publisher & to be crystal clear, I love that team& they did right by my 1st book. But for books beyond my next? 😬😵‍💫 I have never looked down on other publishing models (zine girly from way back) & every day, self pub looking ever more possible for future work.

For @wired.com, I spoke with workers about the quiet push to experiment with AI tools from book publishing executives at the Big Five. www.wired.com/story/book-p...

More than two dozen workers at three major publishing houses—HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette—tell WIRED that LLMs are being used for publicity, cover art, back cover copy, and emails, as some execs push junior staff to champion the tech. Read the full story: buff.ly/p0ymGmN

I was eager to put in entries for a prestigious journalism award for some of our Bolts team's wonderful work this year; they deserve all the love. The fee to apply for each 1 story is $500. The journalism sector should really rethink what it asks of small newsrooms to have any seat at the table.

Got my flu shot and covid shot and there was a woman there getting a flu shot who said "I should get a covid thing too huh?" to the check-in person after I went to go wait and decided to get it. Had nothing to DO with me, she just heard me say it and decided, but still, good to see others getting it

In WA State farm workers are harvesting Granny Smith apples. Hector says, "I feel very unhappy about what they're paying us. Last year, we were paid $33/900lb bin. This year they are only paying us $30/bin. It's increasingly difficult to cover my family's expenses. #WeFeedYou

it’s never a bad time to remember how hilariously unpopular this guy is. didn’t it take him like twelve rounds of ballots for his OWN PARTY to grudgingly hold their noses and pull together enough votes?? he hates his life so much and honestly some days that’s such a balm to my soul

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said that he doesn’t know “what my next chapter of life is” if Republicans lose the House in the November elections, in remarks that gave rise to speculation that he might retire from politics under that scenario.

Do we arrest those who shoot people in our streets? Or do we join them? The *only* cohort that has trouble answering that question is the one we're paying to play Candy Crush on our subway platforms, on top of $117 MILLION we paid for cops assaulting our neighbors last year. More than Jalen gave up!
