Sometimes I see something in nature and then spend the next several years waiting for the shot. Sometimes I never get it. Sometimes you see it and a week later you land it: I give you tonight's murder of crows in front of the sunset. 🪶

I started getting followed by some "film festivals" and "writing festivals" and thought "oh, these are cool!" Then I looked a little closer. They're all part of a network that preys on writers, charging us for reviews, and feeding our stuff into slop generators. So I made a list.👋🏻🖕🏻😠

the more I age, the more I detest software at a visceral, personal level. Every pointless deprecation, bullshit API change, vibe-coded regression, violation of semver, godawful UI change in tooling I use, etc. that I have to put up with is time not spent enjoying my brief time on Earth

I think Emily Wilson has earned the right to have whatever opinion she likes about adaptations of Homer. Her translations are amazing achievements and she's already survived several rounds of outrage about a female translator of such a manly poet.

irish times politics podcast about a month ago talking about the major european heatwave (which subsequently killed thousands), where the lads were saying: - you can't attribute these events to climate change (wrong) - sure it'll be more nice summers, isn't that great (dead wrong)

This summer has made it abundantly clear that we need rewetting across all landscapes, varied habitats, firebreaks and a recalibration of what we use water for, and in ireland, a massive growth and restoration of our degraded ecosystems like bog and wet woodlands that are naturally fire resistant

When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this. Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.
