Made Dreamcast-style bump mapping which uses polar coordinate textures (2 color channels, rotation and elevation). And it ... sure looks about the same as modern normal maps!

Two balls covered in stone brick. The light shines across both bumpy surfaces almost identically.

Straight bricks can look zigzagged on the PS1 because it lacked perspective correction in the texture mapping. Some games increased polygons (subdivision) when you got closer to help straighten things out. Video is my recreation in unity

New prototype of VRC Light Volumes real-time shadows! It uses EVSM сontact-hardening soft shadows. Performance seems good on PC, but I will do more tests. Finally something that looks better than what you can achieve in Unity by default!

one of my favorite arthouse horror movies, 'the wolf house', is currently on tubi for free. which is great, because i feel like a lot of folks who would adore this have never even heard of it because it was hard to find. marvelous surreal progression, blurred lines between environment and self.

a poster. white, hand drawn text with wiggly borders says "the wolf house: a film by León & Cociña. a very handmade, paper and paint looking puppet with bright strawberry red hair sits on a white surface next to a panda bear plush. a window and a shelf are visible behind it.

Footage from my identica event, a short dance experience, modifying participants' avatars to create a fast lighting system based on shaders, probe, and texture data🌸 Thank you for the positivity and excitement surrounding this event! I'm very motivated to run more experiments like this in the future
