And the Emmy for best surreality show goes to: the news #ClimateCrisis #CureLongCovid #NarcissisticAbuseAwareness and (sigh) Democracy 😩

El-Sayed, Lawrence and McKinney all won progressive campaigns in Michigan last night by talking about climate and clean energy like it was a kitchen-table issue — because skyrocketing energy bills and endless wildfire smoke matter to people.

SARS-CoV-2 did not come from a lab. There is no evidence pointing to laboratory origins. There’s been a massive disinformation campaign to convince the public otherwise. It’s scary how effective that campaign has been.

If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"

Stop the false equivalence. No other President sued his own government to secure immunity for himself and his family, created a fund to reward cop beaters, and demanded prosecution of his political enemies. Trump’s weaponization of DOJ is unprecedented and you just endorsed it.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com · yesterday

Tillis admits Trump is weaponizing the DOJ during his speech announcing he'll vote for Todd Blanche: "Maybe it's a little bit more intense in this administration than the last one ... I'm going to support Mr Blanche's nomination"

Those who believe things like this are working hard at not understanding the finite options available to someone whose abuser has not been prosecuted, found guilty, etc. by the law. And how rarely those things happen to abusers, esp. high-status white male abusers.

Rep. Max Miller: "These are incredibly serious criminal accusations. If these accusations were true, I would be in jail — I would be. My former wife would not have been offering to cook me dinner and inviting me to playgrounds. Think about that."

Greece is burning. Spain is burning. Sicily, Wales, Türkiye, Canada, the US— the entire planet is engulfed in flames. Decades of warnings ignored. Decades of corporate denial exposed. The science was right all along: our home is on fire. We need immediate, radical climate action.

Let’s be clear here, when scientists say mistakes were made at the start of the pandemic, we DO NOT mean that we did too much. We mean not socially distancing quickly enough, not making tests widely available, and not acknowledging COVID is airborne and distributing N95 masks to everyone.

Republicans want to rewrite the history of COVID just like they want to rewrite the history of January 6th and the ongoing reality of climate change. They refuse to accept that they or their ideas could be the villain of the story. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Anthony Fauci’s high-profile Senate hearing: what we learned

Six years on from Covid crisis, Republicans still politicizing science – and Fauci remains a political punching bag

Dr. James Hansen: "If we want the accelerated warming to slow down, we must get Earth’s energy imbalance to decrease. That means the world needs to get serious about reducing the humanmade climate forcing,* and the world has not got very serious yet." *(primarily fossil fuel pollution)

At a time when there is a political permission structure for externalizing sadistic impulses, it can be challenging to maintain our values and compassion. Human connection and modeling help. We maintain our humanity during periods of darkness by being the light—for ourselves and those around us.

1. American taxpayers are spending $2 BILLION every year providing Medicaid benefits to hundreds of thousands of employees of Amazon and Walmart, a new analysis by Popular Information reveals.

The vast majority of our outlets are owned by right-wing billionaires and last night our most prominent political reporters spent an hour chuckling along with a clearly senile Republican president as he insulted them incoherently. Here's why our media has a liberal bias problem.

Pornainen, Finland (pop 5,000) is now heated by a silo of crushed soapstone. I spoke to CNBC about it. 100 MWh, charged when power is cheap, emissions down ~70%. Days to weeks of storage, no critical minerals. www.cnbc.com/2026/07/25/f...

Finland’s radical answer to renewable energy’s biggest headache: The world’s largest sand battery

A small Finnish town has turned to the world's largest commercial sand battery to tackle a major hurdle in the energy transition: intermittency.

Amazon workers on federal aid nearly tripled between 2020 and 2025. During that time, Jeff Bezos saw his net worth jump by $139B as Amazon profits hit record highs. No corporation as profitable as Amazon should be paying its workers so little they must rely on food stamps and Medicaid to survive.
