We have consistently found that antisocial behaviour primarily comes from a lack of healthier outlets. Our young people are growing up in a society that has cut back on providing for them, that has isolated them from their communities, and then questions why they might act out.

We can't keep repeating the same failed approach. We need a major expansion of harm reduction and treatment services, including safe consumption facilities. We must ensure that people can access support quickly, safely, and without stigma, fear or criminalisation.

The North Sea Transition Taskforce said oil and gas activity is declining faster than green industries are growing
Scotland risks losing thousands more skilled North Sea workers and crucial industrial capability unless the UK government takes urgent action, a new report has warned.

The North Sea Transition Taskforce said oil and gas activity is declining faster than offshore wind, carbon capture, hydrogen and other emerging industries are growing, threatening the jobs, investment and supply chain needed to deliver the energy transition.

This could only be news to the cantankerous, the conservative, and the cruel. Local services have been decimated, mental health waiting lists have ballooned, and future economic prospects look less certain by the day. The promise to your children of a better world than yours should be sacrosanct.

Total state expenditure for the UK last year was ~1.35 trillion. £500mln is a lot but it's also a rounding error, especially if you think having steel production at home is strategically important. The bigger question is; now that we own them, what do we need from these plants?

Nicholas Beuret@nicholasbeuret.bsky.social · 3w ago

Having already spent £500mn on propping up the steel sector, and just having nationalised a third steel maker, the British govt is now losing £1.3mn per day Burnham faces a hard choice as govt borrowing surges: let the sector fail, or find a way to make steel profitable. 1/3

Twelve years ago, I was one of many progressive activists in Scotland who could see a better world was possible. We built what had been a nationalist hobby horse into a movement that championed equality and social justice. After the No vote, I've watched that petty nationalism swallow it all.

I would love to ask a prominent BBC journalist to give me an example of an illegitimate concern. Is seems to me that it has become a question not of fact, logic, or ethics but of volume. If a big enough proportion of a village was anxious about Bigfoot or Chemtrails, BBC would cover it in a way...

I can’t really articulate how angry this makes me. After all the effort that’s been put into this, including figuring out the border arrangement, and millions of pounds pledged from both governments, this is a ridiculous setback for mass transit to our nearest neighbours.

The long-awaited return of a ferry service linking Rosyth with mainland Europe is dead in the water as Forth Ports pull out of plans to revive the route 🚨

Burnham knew this would be the result of dropping his pledge to cap political donations, but he did it anyway. Labour are determined to midwife a Reform government, like plenty of other centrist parties before them whose weakness paved the way for right wing extremists.

New oil and gas licences: ➡️ will not take a penny off bills ➡️ cannot make us energy secure ➡️ will only accelerate the worsening climate crisis Words straight from Labour's 2024 manifesto. So why are they now preparing to approve the Jackdaw and Rosebank developments?

Jackdaw and Rosebank will not secure Scotland’s energy future

SCOTLAND’S energy debate has once again been reduced to two words: Jackdaw and Rosebank

Every license we grant to drill more oil and gas in the North Sea will contribute to more wildfires, more heatwaves, and more loss of life. Today I asked the First Minister to join me in condemning the climate-wrecking behaviour of the UK government, and say no to drilling at Jackdaw and Rosebank
