A bit late...we know...but thanks to everyone who presented at and attended our strand at @imc-leeds.bsky.social last month. So many papers, so much to reflect on. Thank you everyone, we hope to see you next year 😊 Here's a photo of the organising team looking proud.
Due to popular demand, and to make it easy for our colleagues just getting back after conference season, we decided to extend the deadline for this year's #MAMG conference. If you feel like participating, but haven't submitte yet, worry not! Make sure to send us an abstract by August 8th.
New paper out! In this one, 'Light Linking: A Concept for Connecting Prosopographies', I go into some details on an alternative to authority files for connecting historical data together. journals.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/index.php/dc... #DigitalHumanities #DH #History #Data
Delighted to see my latest article in PRIA in the wild. It analyses eight fascinating letters sent by Irish kings to the kings of England in the 13thC, while also providing a full transcription and translation of them in the appendix. Even better is that its open access: muse.jhu.edu/pub/423/arti...

Hi all! Just a reminder the CFP deadline for MAMG's annual asynchronous conference is approaching (3 Aug)! Our theme this year is 'Possible Worlds’ and ‘Possible Pasts’. The link below has the full CFP #MAMG #medieval #gamestudies @midagesmodgames.bsky.social tinyurl.com/MAMG2026
Celtic studies mutuals: you'll want to wishlist this game. If gaming's not really your hobby (yet), I can think of no better introduction.
#BookWormSat 'Cynghanedd' is a unique system of poetic stress and sound-arrangement that originated in Welsh-language poetry around a thousand years ago. Despite it's ancient origins, it's still often used in contemporary Welsh poetry today. 1/4
- console game - geek out - larp - shout-out - rewild Super true. I wouldn't be able to have a conversation without these words 😅

Glad to see this important historical game getting international recognition.
@midimyers.com spent the week with Hell Clock, the roguelite that uses its sparse atmosphere and zombie enemies to make its perspective on the real-life Canudos Massacre known.
"[Franchises] are built to hook you and continually reel you in, little by little, until you forget what it was like to ever not have a giant hook in your mouth." Bravo, @nathangrayson.bsky.social

Said 8 other people likely comprising myself and the four players to whom I DM'd a six-months long campaign back in college. We had fun.
Unfortunately only I and 8 other people played more than 2 sessions of 4E because a D&D game being mechanically sound is anathema to the spirit of D&D as defined by its player base.
Thought I'd slid through the door at the last second for this year's #MAMG - then saw there's still the weekend! I'll (hopefully) talk about "From 'Docufictions' to 'Lawplay': On Speculative Engagement with Early Medieval Law". Because, of course, what else?...😉 🎲📜⚖️ #TTRPG #LangobardRPG #Medieval
The CfP for the upcoming #MAMG26 is now live! The event will take place on 5-7 Oct, assynchronously and online. Come join us from anywhere in the world to discuss medievalisms in games and alternative approaches to the ludic past.

This was an interesting piece to write, reflecting on how stories changes over time, how they both shape and are shaped by ideas of national identity, and how that feeds into my own current work. I've been following the HGN blog posts for a while now - it was lovely being invited to contribute!
New post! ✍️ The first for our "Nations" theme, Stevan Anastasoff writes about the ongoing development of Tales of the Mabinogion (@mabinogiongame.bsky.social), translating Welsh history, stories and language into game design through layers of interpretation 🏴 www.historicalgames.net/making-tales...
The Frames was the soundrack of my teenage years. Few other artists had a bigger impact on me at that formative age than Glen & crew. Heartbreaking. This is a sad day indeed.
Such shocking and tragic news. www.independent.ie/irish-news/o...

Some academics turn up their noses at movie adaptations or popular history books, but I call them "gateway drugs" into deeper scholarship. How many of us fell in love with history because a movie (or book) sparked our curiosity first? For me, it was Amadeus - it sent me down an 18thC rabbit hole.
This is deeply emotional for us.🥹 Scarlet Deer Inn, our dark medieval folk tale with physical embroidery, is OUT NOW on Steam! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us on this journey. ❤️ Steam: store.steampowered.com/app1553260
