If you have never felt what 84°F at 87% humidity is like there is simply no way to describe how oppressive it is. Stepped outside this morning & felt like I got hit in the face with a wet sock while putting on a weighted vest. Absolutely punishing out there, I want no further part in it!!

I do not want a Reddit account. I have never wanted a Reddit account. I simply want to read a thread in my browser bc Reddit is now the only place to get real human answers to search queries. But they blocked browser scrolling and it’s finally annoying enough I might have to make a goddamn account

I have an appointment with my neurology team tomorrow that I’m pretty anxious about. Apparently I channeled all that panicked energy into… spending 6 hours building out an event budget spreadsheet for work? I did not intend to spend 6 hours of my one precious life in Google Sheets today. And yet.

artist pulling out their hair over a desk covered in used mugs, an ash tray full of cigarette butts, knocked over whiskey glasses, eyes blood shot, screaming "WHAT IS MY TAKE ON JIMOTHY" to the heavens

I’ve been thinking about this kind of “algorithmic folklore” for a while now and if I had more time and energy I’m convinced there’s some compelling research to be done on how well it maps to historical oral traditions and new religious movements

I always think it's funny how instagram makes people into village soothsayers coming up with and passing around folk wisdom because the platform runs on like a million obscured algorithms and no one knows how it works. Advice feels very 'A rooster crowing at night is a sign of rain coming.'

Another delightful cockchafer fact: There was a very popular type of trim used on 18th-century garments that modern costumers call “fly fringe,” but original sources, especially French, often referred to it as “sourcils de hanneton” — “cockchafer beetle’s eyebrows”

A close-up photo of 18th century passementerie. This photo shows a woven band with looped gimp braid, and two prominent fluffs of “fly fringe” made of knotted silk fibers. The fluffy fringe looks a LOT like its namesake, cockchafer beetle eyebrows.

The photo is watermarked “Lady’s Repository Museum”

My four favourite facts about the cockchafer beetle: 1. It's called a cockchafer beetle. 2. It’s also sometimes known as a “billywitch”. 3. It’s unusually loud and clumsy by beetle standards and bangs into lots of things when it flies into your house by mistake. 4. It looks like this, close up.

A cockchafer beetle, demonstrating its talent for multitasking by showing us its pad while also listening with great sympathy to our problems.

Heat index of 122°F just feels made up. Like how is this the real weather. you’re tellin me it feels like ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWO OF DANIEL GABRIEL FAHRENHEIT’S DEGREES?!

celebrating the good parts of america today. if you don’t think there are any good parts, just look to all the stuff the fascists are desperate to stifle
