I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I hope this doesn't sound patronising but go and see art. The Hockney talk has reminded me again that seeing art in the flesh is a very different experience to seeing it on a screen. You understand why people cry in art galleries. It's not just the gift shop prices.

A friend of mine who was TA’ing for an AmLit course found a copy of Moby Dick a student had left behind. It had only one marginal annotation, around page 100, that simply said “whale is important.”

Wrote the eulogy I've been avoiding for weeks on the train to Eastern Ontario in thirty minutes. All writing should be done on a train. If only it were on time.
Having just finished reading the Testaments, I'm giving the show a go. Great production value and performances, but I admit I'm skeptical of a lot of the choices. Would the clothes for women be that form fitting? I really think it would be more of a Duggar situation, at Gileads's most liberal.
What is maddening about this debate is that citation practices are not just about AI hallucinations. Scholars should be familiar with the ongoing conversations in their fields. Citations aren't throwaway padding. They are about matters of methodology, ethics, and care. 🛢1/2

And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?

I think one of the most shocking things to me at times lie these is that there are genuine, sincere Drake fans.
Maybe it was a bad idea to pay a giant corporation to hold all our course materials and assessments hostage.
Just had Canvas stop working as I was typing comments on a student paper. I now can’t access anyone’s work or grades. Strangely, this never happened back when I used a grade book and had students email me their papers, a system no shareholders extracted money from.

I'm the amateur genealogist who researched Bridgens, Young, Orren, and Peglar, and was able to find and contact living descendants of their families who agreed to do DNA tests!
My sweet buddy would have been 12 years old today. Two years gone. Miss him more than anything.

The students who tell me they've done this, without exception, are unable to explain anything they've written in their essay beyond the most surface terms. They don't understand the words they've used.
