Play is intrinsically connected to hope, community, and identity. Games are a function of that play that we need in times of darkness. Games ARE political, and have been used as tools of propaganda by colonizers for nearly our entire modern understanding.
The Ukrainian publisher of board games including Catan and Exploding Kittens is fighting for its existence after a Russian missile strike destroyed its warehouse, wiping out its entire stock of about 200,000 games: boardgamewire.com/index.php/20...
In this week's video I reflect on the last 5 years of being a full time game designer, how I made the decision to go full time, and the various pros and cons of that career choice! youtu.be/1G_jXgo7CKQ Thanks to @eanderssonsunden.bsky.social and @connievdc.bsky.social for inspiration :) 🎲✂️

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to work with Elsi, this beautiful red-sailed ship. It looked so tiny in between the massive icebergs of Greenland.
There is so much lasting joy to be had in learning a skill in which you are interested. AI is out there stealing all that joy.
awards shmawards, keep making weird stuff
Justin Gary, Christopher Burdett, Brian Lewis, Steve Hobbs, Elizabeth Hargrave are on stage. Brian Lewis, chair of Gen Con and managing partner of Azora Law, is giving the opening statement: AI is bigger than the Internet; it's at the magnitude of a meteor strike...
You wouldn't know it from how some people talk, but it is incredibly easy to not use AI for anything.
What are your favorite accessible co-op games? I'm looking for games that could work well as an introduction to the hobby, in a friendly setting where the group is working together. 🎲✂️
Can confirm. I love using this game as an example for my students, for how efficiently it creates a tonne of varied decision-making. Simple rules, stated so concisely they fit on the envelope / a couple lines per card, powering an explosion of emergent permutations. 🤩 Ace indeed — very nice work!
“Ace” is the shortest review I’ve ever gotten… I’ll take it. 😍

So glad you're enjoying it! This is a tricky layout... whose turn is it...? 🤔 If black, I know what I'd do.....

We bought a 20’ x 40’ event tent for our upcoming festival. Related: I’m one critical step closer to being able to host a board game design retreat weekend on the farm... Make and play board games by day, campfire and stargazing by night. 🧡
Did you know my wife and I run a festival/conference/summer camp on our farm? If you’re in #Manitoba and want to come hang out and learn some endangered skills in small hands-on workshops, have good food, and listen to Burnstick and Two Crows for Comfort LIVE…

the fact that helicopter is not heli+copter but helico+pter (spiral wing) will always gnaw at me inside.
I was a 911 dispatcher for a decade. To really understand how terrible an idea it is to have AI answer 911 calls, I'll present you with a single real-life call: Upon answer, the caller calmly began ordering a pizza. Large, pepperoni. Side order of chicken wings. To be delivered promptly.
AI has no place in 911 calls. From Mystery AI Hype Theater 3000’s latest episode “State of Emergency”. (with @emilymbender.bsky.social)
Today I discuss three paper games: one about origami, another with coins, and a third that's all about coloring by numbers. Read about them here: spacebiff.com/2026/07/24/o...

More to what I was talking about re: proper attribution. The @ttgda.bsky.social is working to reduce instances where publishers, media outlets, and content creators fail to acknowledge the creatives behind the games. irp.cdn-website.com/2b6905d0/fil...
Making myself a tshirt to wear that says “teaching children that hobbies only exist to be monetized is robbing them of a life of joy”
Just saw a local place holding a workshop for children on how to monetize their hobby with a business plan and I hate it so much.
