@425suzanne.bsky.social I didn't want to forget, the game I started to tell you about on Saturday is called Master of Rules. It's a card game for up to five players, published by Hobby Japan. It's *not* a trick-taker, but it is very, very interesting. Worth checking out.
interesting aside here about Patel as Odysseus, which would have been dope, but also misses the crucial (Hollywood) cinematic technique Nolan deploys in his film namely, he shaves scenes and dialogue down to the bone, casting stars who can fill in the gaps via performance and star persona
EMILY WILSON@emilyrcwilson.bsky.social · 2w agoIn this piece, I regret the paragraph about the uses of the POC actors - who are all great, but IMO under-utilized (and why couldn‘t Himesh Patel be Odysseus instead?) I still think the film largely wastes its strong cast, but I framed it badly.
When Jodorowsky's Dune came out, I saw it twice. I've watched it at least five or six times. At first, it was a portrait of uncompromising vision and brilliance. As I've grown older, I've come to see it as a portrayal of hubris and unfathomable levels of ego. It has made it impossible to take (1/2)

I thought THE ODYSSEY was fine. Impressive, absolutely, with some excellence sprinkled throughout it, but I thought it was fine.
Though the changes in Queen's Dilemma from King's Dilemma come at the cost of some dynamism and variety in player experience, @horribleguild.bsky.social have published one of the greatest Fuck You machines in all of board games. If you can find a group, don't hesitate. It's a marvel and a joy.

Meeple Mountain received a review request the other day for a game that included the phrase, "If you enjoy [the game], please share your honest thoughts with your audience." This response to my review is the opposite of that ethos.

It’s great as a game because it is so loved by our own crew, but also a learning experience- how art interacts with the world.
