I knew graduate school was going to be stressful, I did not anticipate how emotional it would be though. Damn

Optimist: the cup is half full Pessimist: the cup is half empty Colorado River researcher: more than half of that cup’s water was used for agriculture, and the majority of that was for cattle feed, some of which was exported to the Middle East where growing feed is restricted due to water scarcity

Lawmakers cheer, conservation groups protest changes to roadless rule
The U.S. Forest Service is accepting public comment after releasing new plans to rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule.Conservative lawmakers are tou

Roads are also the primary cause of sediment loads at pollutant levels in many forest streams. I do not understand why we are wasting money trying to repeal this act.
The Trump Administration just opened a 33-day comment period on the rescission of the Roadless Area Conservation Rule. You can take just 2 minutes to submit a unique public comment opposing the rescission using our “mad lib” 👇 tinyurl.com/RRMadLib
Thing is if you *actually* care about water scarcity you should be criticising wasteful water use where the leverage is highest (agriculture). If you aren't saying anything about the massive lever and are harping on about a relatively small one don't be surprised if people doubt you actually care.
While you were sleeping, Governor Little signed an agreement that will likely make Idaho a dumping ground for the nation's high level radioactive waste, undoing Governor Batt's popular and binding legal agreement. Marc Johnson has the receipts. #idpol marccjohnson.substack.com/p/more-on-th...

Demanding to examine a child's genitals for them to play sports is fucking insane
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
I was stalking a kingfisher in my kayak the other evening (I'm a glutton for punishment, I know) and I looked up to find myself face to face with this little one. 🌿🦊
Very thankful to be in that one tiny spot in the Central Idaho Mountains that can breathe this morning, as most of the smoke has settled below us due to overnight inversions. #IdahoFire We've got a bit of smoky haze, but not nearly as bad as the rest of the state.
Where's this smoke coming from? Yes. #IdahoFire #OregonFire

Something I find "interesting" is when a popular conservation catch phrase unintentionally makes people who (maybe?) haven't worked in complex systems hear that catchphrase, then think the whole picture is encapsulated in one line. (1/6)
UNPOPULAR OPINION; Children deserve to eat and I do not care if my taxes go towards buying them food.
AI: virtually no subject provokes such vitriol in my communities. I can grant the haters many of its harms, but their solutions leave much to be desired. I fear for the future even as I wonder at the future we are living. And so, dear hater, I must write: shaping.systems/blog/ai-suck...
AI sucks. Hating it is not enough.
