I didn't get any photos of Pride at the Pier last night because I was busy talking to everyone 😅 But I'm so grateful for all of the North Shore folks who come together every year to throw an amazing party, even when the weather isn't the best! Remember when a bunch of anti-Indigenous pundits started crying because a Nation booked out one single campground for 5 days? Now all campgrounds are closed & under an evacuation alert due to the Fiftynine Creek wildfire. Hwy 97 access is cut off because the highway is closed.

Tweet from Caroline Elliott:

Remember when I said it set a dangerous precedent to shut down Joffre Lakes Provincial Park to non-Indigenous British Columbians?

Now a popular campground at Green Lake Provincial Park in the Cariboo is closed based on ancestry too, during peak camping season.

With 200+ Indigenous groups in BC with overlapping traditional territories effectively covering over 100% of the province, expect more of this. Much more.

And instead of insisting on equal access to parks for all, BC’s NDP government is enforcing these race-based closures.

I will never, ever stop fighting for this very simple principle: BC’s beautiful provincial parks belong to ALL British Columbians.Screenshot from BC Parks website

Park is partially closed due to wildfire
The Fiftynine Creek Wildfire has forced the closure of Emerald Bay, Sunset View and Arrowhead campgrounds.

In the interest of public safety, BC Parks has partially closed this park until further notice.

Get up-to-date information from other official sources, such as the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the local regional district, and Drive BC.

You can still visit other BC Parks that remain unaffected by wildfire. Find other places to visit on the find a park page.

Park is under evacuation alert.

I'm furious. The District of North Van cancelled a modular housing development on Welch St. after BC Cons clutched their pearls & organized attacks on it. People are already living in vehicles or roughing it in the area. The development was meant to get them a home. www.dnv.org/business-dev...

Happy Pride! But you're going to be waiting quite a while for the parade to go through because it's next weekend, not this weekend 😄 Unless they meant Pride Week, which starts on Monday 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

REPORT: We reviewed social media posts of far-right independent media, influencers, and columnists in the 72 hours following the Tumbler Ridge school shooting. What we found was an astounding volume of content seemingly aimed at dehumanizing and stirring up hate against transgender people. 🧵

It's not a truly spicy public hearing until someone repeats the Lord's Prayer, argues that renters don't deserve a chance to speak as punishment for being unable to afford a multimillion dollar SFH & deadpan states that a deer should have more rights than poor people (love u dnv 🫶)

A racist film starring Armie Hammer is becoming a rallying point for the far right. After Elon Musk and prominent influencers amplified Citizen Vigilante, extremist groups flooded social media with calls for violence against immigrants and government officials. Read more:

Clearing CRAB Park for "cleaning" wasn't a decampment, even though it was eventually locked off and residents were forced to permanently leave. Constantly pressure-washing specific streets "for the World Cup" isn't a sweep, it just ensures no one can sit out on the street. Et cetera.

Whether residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside have been subjected to “street sweeps” because the city is hosting the FIFA World Cup depends on who you ask and how you define the term. thetyee.ca/News/2026/07...

A tale as old as North Van. - I can't stay in my home without two rental units to cover my mortgage. - I protest any bylaw that views tenants as humans & not tree lichen. - I must have street parking for my oversized pickup. - Infrastructure. The infrastructure. - SSMUH is my 9/11.

A speaker from last night’s infill hearing (which passed) said that allowing 4 units per lot would bring parking and traffic Armageddon, but (barely stopping for breath) that 3 units per lot (laneway and basement mortgage helpers) were good and true and his inalienable right as a landowner. #newwest

Northbound, this intersection is where the Spirit Trail overpass drops to street level & crosses 1st. Trail users only have a metre or 2 to transition from a steep-ish ramp to a busy industrial road crossing. Where is the City's commitment to @visionzerovancouver.ca? www.nsnews.com/local-news/w...

Sadly, the woman who was struck by the landscaping truck didn’t survive. When is the @cityofnorthvan.bsky.social going to get serious of safe streets? They mentioned #VisionZero once and have done nothing to move the needle on safe streets. This was avoidable. www.nsnews.com/local-news/w...

@cityofnorthvan.bsky.social one of the worst intersections on my commute. Today a cyclist was hit by a truck and I hear another was hit yesterday. Drivers are constantly speeding, disregarding signals and people in crossings. Some of the worst infrastructure going and I doubt anything will change.

An intersection where a cyclist was hit by a truck today. Drivers regularly run red lights and ignore pedestrians and cyclists in the crosswalk.

Do Canadians dislike harm reduction as much as right-wing media says? From actual research: "They (Canadians) thought that not only did these sites provide access to supports and health-care resources, but they also felt more neutral toward the crime situation..." www.ctvnews.ca/canada/artic...

A new national study suggests Canadians generally view supervised consumption sites as beneficial and do not believe they have negative effects on communities or health systems.
