Fae: “Tell us your true name.” Me: “…Just my name? No birthdate, no SSN, no fingerprint scan, no address, no mother’s maiden name? Are you sure you’ve even got the right Olivia Waite? There’s like six.” Fae: “What the hell kind of bargains have you been making?” Me: “They call it health insurance.”

I love a lot of creators But i really need them to reflect on why they can defend AI in every artform BUT the one you work in Why is every other artform not as personal or heartfelt or needing human touch

Thread, and if you are an author who was published by Daily Science Fiction (DSF), which is now defunct, you may want to check if your stories have been scraped and hosted on this new site that is NOT seeking permission and is making itself impossible to contact directly. FINISH THEM. ⬇️

Especially since they say they'll take things down if you ask -- which they shouldn't need to say if they asked for permission in the first place -- and then give you no way to do so! You'll have to contact Cloudflare: www.cloudflare.com/trust-hub/re...

Today I am obsessesing over the covers of E. R. Eddison's "The Worm Ouroboros" and later Zimiamvian Trilogy illustrated by native midwesterner Barbara Remington. Just an absolutely phenomenal house style for Ballantine Books.

This is so fucking invasive and creepy and police statey jesus fucking christ This doesn’t just police children, this tracks and polices everyone and hands ALL of our information over to mysterious “third parties”.

The regulations released Tuesday require large social media platforms to use third-party systems to document age. Government identification documents can be used, but aren't required, according to the regulations.
It's still relatively easy to determine whether an Internet user is over 18, said Andy Lulham, chief operating officer of Verifymy, which offers age-verification services. His company does so by scanning someone's face or simply taking in their email address.
"It's got nothing to do with the email account or your emails," he explained. "But it can analyze where that email address was previously used. ... So it could be compared on a database where there are mortgage
providers or credit card companies or utility providers, and it can build an age profile or a minimum estimated age of the user."

People have got to learn the difference between “this thing may be objectively harmless but it feels icky to me and I don’t want it” and “this thing is radioactively Bad and everyone who’s touched it must be Punished”
