Biked 1 mile to coffee. Then biked another mile to the pharmacy. Then biked 1 mile home. 95% on protected (separated) bike infra. More Americans deserve the freedom of a life like this (if they want it).

Laura rides a bike on a protected bikelane. She has coffee on her handlebar mount and a front milk crate vasket. There are 2 other people on bikes in the background.

CoreCivic's name used to be Corrections Corporation of America (that means private prisons, which we worked to stop in 2016); and they 'rebranded' in 2016. These fuckers don't belong in Minnesota; and this is some bullshit.

CoreCivic has announced it's been awarded an ICE contract to use the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minnesota. The new five-year contract begins on Aug. 11, 2026. ir.corecivic.com/news-release...

Feels like if the commissioner of community safety was really the top of the public safety org chart, Frey would find the new commissioner before searching for the new police chief. But it doesn't actually function that way, which raises the question, why do we spend money on it?

'[T]hen-Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a memo directing U.S. attorneys in select districts to charge those protesters, as well as people who interfered with law enforcement, "with the highest provable offense available under the law."' www.npr.org/2026/08/03/n...

She protested ICE raids. Then agents showed up at her door

The Justice Department is using federal conspiracy charges to sweep up ICE protesters. Some legal experts worry the agency is casting too wide a net to prosecute political activists.

Make no mistake here. This is Trump objectively taking the side of Iran, a nation we are currently at war with, over the Americans in Minnesota because he hates the governor and the fact that a majority of voters there did not vote for him

Trump: "We heard in Minnesota there was a cyberattack and they blame it on Iran. I don't think so. I blame it on Minnesota because they're grossly incompetent. Iran's got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota."

Editorial Board: "It's clear who has the money advantage in the race for senate in Minnesota. Every other ad is the Craig side telling us that Peggy Flanagan failed our dad Tim Walz. But dad being mad at us for some bullshit is very relatable, which is why we favor Flanagan."

GM CEO Mary Barra is introducing Trump at his rally. Something to keep in mind if you're in the market for a vehicle anytime soon.

Oh, to be a young polar bear in a cold plunge pool on a warm summer day, playing with my enrichment items. This is Kallik at the Oregon Zoo, a 3 yr old sub-adult male. The name means "lightning bolt" in Iñupiaq. (📷: Oregon Zoo via YT)

My feelings about Haiti are the Anthony Bourdain quote about Cambodia. I was fortunate to visit in 2008, during the short interlude between coups and earthquakes, and it was very formative. A beautiful people trying to scratch out better lives in a land ravaged by colonialism. They deserve better.

TPS for Haitians officially expires tomorrow. ICE is planning big operations, with Springfield, Ohio among the targets www.cbsnews.com/news/ice-hai...
