Well that’s not exactly true, AccuWeather… The gold standard National Lightning Detection Network detected a couple in-cloud lightning flashes within 5 miles of the hotel within 15 minutes of the first cloud-to-ground flash.

The fatal strike happened at 6:32 p.m. EDT and was the first lightning detected from the thunderstorm moving over the area, according to data from the AccuLightning Network™.

Because it was the first lightning from the storm, there had been no earlier thunder to serve as an audible warning that lightning was becoming a threat.

You know, in three weeks we'll be really wishing we had these days of warm, dry weather again. Warm days with highs in the low 80s, dewpoints in the mid 40s to low 50s, and cool nights. We need the rain, though., and the price to pay for that is higher humidity.

This incredible heat wave 🥵 is rewriting the record books for Colorado’s snowpack. 🏔️ We're currently witnessing a snow drought of historic proportions.🤯 With ~2 weeks of record-smashing temps across the Western US, our mountains are losing what little snow they had—fast. 📉 🧵 1/9 #cowx
