Lydia Spychalla discussing how mesoanticyclones and storm splitting can influence giant hail production in supercells. #AMSMadisonSummit
Day 2 highlights from the #AMSMadisonSummit! 💬 Amazing presentations from our attendees 💧 Joint Session: Honoring the Legacy of Roy Rasmussen 🌙 Receptions and networking events Can't wait for another fantastic day tomorrow 🤩
( #NWSFairbanks): From the FAA webcams earlier today, lenticular clouds form when strong winds hit terrain and are pushed upward and appear to stay relatively still due to continuous moisture condensing on the windward side of the mountain and evaporating on the leeward side #Alaska #AKwx #wx #wxsky
Neat! You can view weather radar across Europe, including the ability for cross sections. Enjoy! wxradar.eu/map/opera/cm...

El Niño usually suppresses dryline related convection in the Southern Plains, especially later in the spring
Fascinating session examining preliminary findings from @nsficechip.bsky.social with observations of an updraft of 150+ mph (5/25/25), addition of LDR to the dual-pol suite, and a lot of heterogeneity in hail swaths, particularly for high precipitation supercells
The new @NSSL RAPTOR mobile radars will be their first since 2008
The cat is officially out of the bag. I promised a consequential first, here it is! On (or around) October 6th, for the first time in its 20+ year history, the SPC Mesoanalysis will be available to the field in real time via NCEP NOMADS. Oh, and it’s in NetCDF, not GRIB.

Shouting into the ether here, but am back to again tap down the 90°F dew point talk over Iowa earlier this week. Lots going on here with this plot, but it isn't corn, it is just bad data. Don't overthink it.
I am too old to tap down the 90/90 talk. Please, get out your slide rule and compute how much water that is, even assuming a very shallow mixed layer above a corn field. Even if 90/90 was right for a corn field, this is way outside of the perf range of the sensor w/ 10 mile viz ob, case closed...
*At a middle school science camp poster session* Student: El Reno holds the record for the widest tornado on record. Me: I chased that storm. Student: I was born in 2013, so I obviously didn't.
( #NWSFairbanks): Noctilucent Clouds are visible tonight across parts of #Alaska! Noctilucent clouds are some of the highest visible clouds, occurring at heights of up to 70 miles in the mesosphere. They are most often seen at high latitudes (above 50 degrees). #AKwx #wx #wxsky
A weather watch might be issued soon for central Illinois. Some storms in the area have the possibility of strong gusts or hail, though tornadoes are not particularly likely. #ILwx
One year ago today I saw one of the best individual tornadoes I've ever seen in my life, and only a whopping 10 miles from my apartment. Despite the EF2 rating, this tornado was one of the most visually intense that I've ever seen. Henry/Watertown SD on 7/27/25. #tornado #weather #stormchasing
A confirmed large significant tornado is ongoing on the southwest side of the Appleton, WI area. Huge debris ball and dual-pol tornadic debris signature in NEXRAD radar data. #wiwx
Includes Champaign-Urbana, but the storms may pass east of us
