He also couldn’t even negotiate for the PR that he wanted and campaigned with all the vigour of a wet lettuce for the option he got. Him and his clique were just useless. The Lib Dems took a decade to recover and are still tarred with Tory policy on university fees.

Started reading The Rose Field: the last of Philip Pullman's Book of Dust trilogy. My wife bought me a posh hardback with case edition when it was published. It's on the bookcase alongside the prior books. I like having them, but I prefer reading ebooks.

Had a filling done a couple of hours ago. The anaesthetic has largely worn off, but my top lip is misbehaving. It's refusing to be sensible and my mouth is going squinty. Also I'm starving because I've not wanted to eat with an unfamiliar tooth and a numb mouth.

I mean obviously Stephenson’s idea of how the trans segregated would work and be policed is through social shame. There’s no legal doc to prove one’s “biological sex” to ask for but you Can Confront a suspected trans person and hopefully shame them into compliance

The consequence of continuing to live our lives is explicitly the threat of legitimised confrontation by members of the public and staff and they can count on us being too disempowered to stand up most of the time. A government guidance built on sheer cruelty and shaming and bullying and prejudice

I really like how these crawler pots just in white have a simple elegance and really draw the focus to just the form of them. These are also smaller than my main line of pots so they really emphasise the delicate porcelain nature of the pieces. (Also makes em 100 quid cheaper to buy 😉)

The song The Wheels On The Bus was written in 1937, but motorised buses date back to the 1890s. So there was a 43 year period where people were just getting on buses with no idea of what was going to happen.

An underreported part of UK Transphobe Lawfare™ is that when they lose, they just... say they won. For all the regrettable sway they do have in courts/govt etc, their real power is in the press. So if they lose, they just pretend they didn't and their press friends print the lie. It's ubiquitous.

Women's Rights Network/Sex Matters took Feile to court to have their event reinstated. It was not reinstated. The two statements released after an agreement was reached give two very different impressions of what happened today in Belfast's High Court.

Started watching He-Man for something light. It has a nice self-depreciatory vibe, and it leans into stupid rather being all serious. And it has Morena Baccarin. I think, though, they'd have been better following Marvel's lead and getting someone with comedy chops to muscle up. Comedy's hard.

What Féile an Phobail row has shown is that women’s rights are at risk — just not from a tiny trans minority Belfast Telegraph27 Jul 2026ALLISON MORRIS I’ve thought long and hard about commenting on the controversy over the cancellation of the Women’s Rights Network (WRN) event at Féile an Phobail — not because I don’t have an opinion, but because it is a debate that attracts the most toxic elements. WRN NI was not a group I was familiar with beforehand, so I did some research. No speakers were listed in the Féile programme for the planned event, which in itself is odd as there are for almost every other of the 90-plus debates and discussions. The group has since announced who its speakers were to be in a series of online posts. My research took me down quite the rabbit hole — a who’s who of the anti-trans movement not just on this island but Europe-wide. I don’t pretend to understand their motivation. In fact, I remain baffled as to why in one of the most dangerous places for women to live in Europe, the group — which has spoken out about femicide before — is obsessing about a small minority instead of the actual dangers we face from domestic violence and femicide. I have worked for decades covering violence against women and girls in all the distressing forms that takes. I know the names of every woman and child murdered in Northern Ireland in the last 10 years without even having to look them up. Not a single one was caused by a trans woman — I checked the list twice just to be sure. None of them were murdered in a public toilet either, which having looked at the online posts of WRN and their many affiliates, is apparently the most dangerous place on earth for women, with trans predators lurking in every cubicle. Apart from the absurdity of much of the group’s argument regarding the perceived dangers of trans women, the claim that women are being silenced by Féile is the most disingenuous of them all.
