"Middle-class kid on the wrong path" is not a thing we see a lot of in Star Wars -I congratulate Stackpole for avoiding the easy (and doubtlessly very sweet) pairing of Gavin and Inyri.
When I heard his voice for Fey'lya I thought there's no way he'll do the same smoker's growl for the hot fox lady but he committed to the bit.
I finished this a bit ago, but life has been too busy to let me gather my thoughts. Big thesis: this book maybe would work best as an RPG campaign setting. There are SO MANY hooks in here that could he fleshed out into full stories. Making the Rogues do everything is actually less interesting.

My most idealistic trait is that I have to believe that a political movement led by people who have lived the consequences of 40 years of disastrous public policy and emerged with a desire to help & heal will beat the political movement led by rich failsons, weird incels, and football coaches.

Generational fumble of the license by Fantasy Flight Games (et all). Star Wars released six movies and I don't even know how many television series while they had the license, and their only release taking advantage of any of it was a beginner game set before TFA.

Some of my favorite stories from that era are smuggler, military, pilot, or treasure-seeking romps. There just wasn’t enough known about the Jedi to make it the storytelling focus, beyond starting neophytes like Luke whose inexperience was the focus.

So things are not good, but they have been much worse. 🤷♂️

Bela Lugosi's Dad 🏳️⚧️ 🇵🇸@belalugosisdad.bsky.social · 2w agoNow, as a rule of thumb, when estimating the number of burials in a graveyard, I would count the number of headstones and add one for every century the graveyard has existed. So 1,100 years is 11 x 8 headstones ≈ 88 burials, give or take. And on average for pre-20th you do one a day, not two.
The "defund the police" cost Democrats countless elections claim always sits awkwardly with the fact that peak "defund" activism was 2020, the year that Democrats won their first federal governing trifecta since 2008.
