People who are trying to convince themselves that Trabzonspor is less of a “retirement” option than MLS or Saudi are fooling themselves. There will be attempts to spin this as “he wanted to stay competing in Europe” but, like, he simply chose the best financial package for him. Full stop.

🚨 BREAKING: Mo Salah set to join Trabzonspor on a two-year contract as a free agent. Trabzonspor confirm they have "begun negotiations". Verbal agreement already in place with Salah with the move set to be formalised this week.👑

Anyone remember when the Crew rejected a Toulouse offer less than half of this amount, and were alleged, by some, to be 'holding him hostage' and thus holding back the USMNT? To be fair, that was one whole year ago, it can be pretty hard to recall such ancient history

Fans never like the commish of any league but you really can't overstate how hard it is for Garber to do what he did, taking a league that was barely holding on that was small enough where you could hold an owner's meeting in a phone booth to a 30 team league with a 9 figure media deal.

Arman Kafai@armankafai.bsky.social · 2d ago

Larry Berg, you are now tasked with advancing MLS to the next chapter. Interested to see what a new voice as commish will do and if he can get things done in the manner that Garber did for years

this should’ve been the beginning of the end for infantino. the fifa/eafc game is the most popular sports franchise in the world, for a “nonprofit” whose mission statement is to ‘globalize and popularize’ football, getting $150m for the game to literally be called ‘FIFA’ is the deal of the century.

Treblig 🇺🇦@camtreblig.bsky.social · 2d ago

An underrated cause of Infantino’s problems is him playing silly buggers with EA Sports: FIFA got $150m a year just to let EA use the name on a game. Literally free money. But Gianni got greedy and wanted more, EA called his bluff and walked away. Since then he’s been trying to make up the shortfall

On the heels of Alladoh’s first MLS goal, I have to remind myself I’m still not giving up on his stock: saw this guy live and he was really really good. Might have been a 99th percentile game for him, but it was also his first game in Europe coming from Ghana, that can’t be an accident

Lots of people replying/quoting this with jokes about dinosaurs/jurassic park/etc and it’s a good time for a favorite fun fact: all birds are literally a branch of theropod dinosaurs that split off from other theropods in the Jurassic period. They look like dinosaurs because they are dinosaurs.

Today I learned that baby cranes are called "colts" because their legs are so long and they can run around like idiots shortly after hatching. This is delightful, I enjoy knowing this.

We already have a shitty, exclusionary place in sports: it's called men's sports. They built it like that on purpose. Let them own it and figure that out for themselves. Women's sports were built in opposition to that structure, built for inclusion. The WNBA has represented the best of that.

It's been 72 years since women's baseball was played professionally in the United States. That changes tomorrow with the WPBL's inaugural slate of games. @mingemi.bsky.social explains how players and coaches are feeling before the big day. www.theixsports.com/features/wpb...
