Say what you want about previous Labour governments, but each one left Britain a more socially liberal country than when it came into office. Without a huge u-turn, the current Labour government will leave us more reactionary and intolerant than in 2024, and this is a big part of why

Our code of practice for services, public functions and associations comes into force today. It provides practical guidance on how the Equality Act 2010 applies to services, public functions and associations. Find out more: https://ow.ly/alIf50Zwrkx

Quote from Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson: 'At the EHRC we want a society where everyone’s rights are respected and realised, so that we can all live well together. Our statutory guidance will help services across the country comply with the Equality Act, protecting service users from discrimination and harassment while reducing the risk of the provider being subject to litigation.

As Britain’s equality regulator, our work doesn’t end upon publication of this guidance. We monitor compliance with the law and take enforcement action where proportionate and necessary, in line with our well-established regulatory model and decision-making framework.'

As things stand, this signing makes it very likely that Arsenal retain the title imho. Rice and Guimaraes complement each other extremely well and maximise the attack

🚨 Newcastle United to sanction sale of Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal for £75m. #AFC started lower, #NUFC wanted higher but compromise in process of being sealed to grant 28yo Brazil int’l midfielder desired move. Lyon entitled to 20% of profit @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/749...

I've been meaning to do a 🧵for ages of which players Chelsea should be selling. Gonna split the thread into three parts: -players who should be sold no matter what; -players who should be sold at the right price; -players who should be sold only once a superior replacement has been identified

As a genuine fan of women’s sports I find it incredibly depressing how it gets weaponised against trans people. I’ve been a season ticket holder for Chelsea Women since the end of lockdown and every other fan I’ve interacted with over the years is a trans ally. Never once have I encountered a GC

the wnba alienating their core audience for the sake of people who wouldn’t watch a wnba game to save their child’s life is a bold gambit, to be sure

Rowling signed the Harper’s Letter, which lamented, “it is now all too common to hear calls for swift and severe retribution in response to perceived transgressions of speech and thought.” Are ANY of her co-signatories — some follow me — going to speak up about her crusade against trans people?

Amnesty International correctly called out Rowling's transphobia. She threatened them in response. And @amnesty.org surrendered. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It Spain doesn’t want people from Africa in its territory, maybe it shouldn’t own two bits of territory in Africa? I don’t know about you, but having a bit of your country in Africa and insisting no Africans are allowed in it doesn’t seem like a very logical choice

What I find troubling about Badenoch's polling is that, when she faced a really serious test of her judgement over the War in Iran, she failed it spectacularly - and blamed British Muslims. And it's had almost zero effect on her reputation. That says something about us, not just her.

🧵Looked quite a bit over past week at appeal of Burnham, what about Badenoch, whose approvals have risen significantly since a low last Autumn, when barely 10% of voters gave her a gross positive approval, to over 30% and higher net approval than Farage, Polanski & Davey.

As a donor to Amnesty International I’m really disappointed they’ve done this, but encouraging people to cancel their donations is dumb. The real villain, apart from Rowling herself, is a legal system which still allows rich hobbyists to bully people, and a judiciary which indulges it

Amnesty have issued an apology to JK Rowling and the rest. Adjust your expectations, and donations, accordingly www.amnesty.org.uk/latest/an-ap...

The transfer ban being suspended is definitive proof there is an anti-Chelsea conspiracy in the footballing establishment. They're scared of how good we'd be if we weren't allowed to waste money on dross

#CFC are fined again for rule breaches under Abramovich era - it’s the FA’s turn re. The 74 charges after UEFA and PL already hit them with financial penalty. Bill comes to £10m plus suspended transfer ban. More here from @simonhughes1983.bsky.social and me: www.nytimes.com/athletic/748...

Excellent signing by Leeds. But I don’t know why a bigger club didn’t go for him. Unless City refused to sell to anyone they regard as a potential rival, it’s astonishing so many teams have let Trafford slip through their fingers

🚨 Leeds United on verge of completing agreement with Manchester City to sign James Trafford. Deal for #MCFC goalkeeper worth £40m guaranteed fee plus bonuses; 23yo England international’s transfer to #LUFC now in process of being finalised 🚨 @theathleticfc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/735...

I think many "public intellectuals" stay on X because while they accept that radicalization is theoretically possible, it's something that only happens to other, dumber or weaker willed people... ... even as their every article inches closer to outright championing eugenics.

X owner Elon Musk indicates he would prioritise political violence (assassination of pro-migration politicians is the common sense meaning) over violence against "invaders" (refugees, asylum seekers, maybe ethnic minorities generally) while endorsing call for violence (killing) against both groups
