Yeah. The Birthright Citizenship win *is* a win, but the fact that it wasn't 9-0 should worry you and the fact that it was a split decision should TERRIFY AND MOTIVATE YOU.

This is shocking. I am stunned.
one unironically good thing about american national character and legal system is that an internal hukou system would be doa here, despite lots of people very clearly wanting that, even if they won't say it explicitly. easier to imagine the union ending than that happening.

I think the bear case for AI leading to scientific advancement is that a lot of shit has to happen in the actual world, and that takes place on world of atoms timelines. Like you gotta actually put the shit in the Petri dishes and beakers and whatnot, the choke point is not running regressions.
The comparison I heard was data centers using the same amount of water as golf courses, and for that I was all, my brother in Christ, let me tell you what I think we should do with golf courses

And since obviously we can't assess which one provides more to human wellbeing we can't be against data centers unless we're against farms too.
As a science fiction writer I really fucking resent tech bros for ruining the phrase "artificial intelligence." 80 years of it being all about cool androids and interesting computers destroyed by five years of "Spicy autocorrect making everything shittier for money." NEVER FORGIVE.
