The term was popularized by Wilhelm Marr in the 1880's, to racialize Jews and to cultivate the idea that he hated Jews on modern scientific racial grounds, not premodern theological grounds. No one *is* a Semite; the term was invented as part of racist pseudoscience. This is ahistorical nonsense.

Since it needs to be said: Anti-Islamic bigotry and anti-Arab racism are very real and deserve to be named and studied and confronted on their own terms. But "antisemitism" never meant "bigotry against Semitic peoples," and saying so is bad historiography.

It’s going to take a herculean effort to restore all the history that these racist motherfuckers are trying to destroy, but we will do it. Because it is necessary and right to do.

When it comes to the mean age of women at birth of first child, given other data I've seen, a lot (though certainly not all) of that steep rise starting in the 1990's is US society has done a remarkable job at reducing the teen pregnancy rate

I think Greg is correct, but Americans need to be aware that Magyar’s Tisza government is aggressively going after every Fidesz official, removing them, using every lever of the state to yank them out of power. This is far more aggressive and rapid than anything proposed in the US so far.

The Magyar government understands if they let up then Fidesz and Orban will regroup like the Brasilian Far Right did and can come right back in. So they have to move with intense endless purpose to cut out the cancer of Orban. Because five years is not much time to reverse it all & clock’s ticking.

The US Democrats need to look at their next Presidency as an endless sprint to obliterate MAGA, every day for years. Until the cancer is gone then there should be no time wasted on MAGA tears or conciliation. Only endless justice and rebuilding the democracy. Govern like every day is the last day.

For a very clear comparison, emulating Magyar would be removing all the MAGA justices and judges from Federal Courts in the first 100 days. That is the scale of democratic chemotherapy we are discussing.

Among my favorite books are Ender's Game and the Ender's Shadow series by Orson Scott Card. But because of his homophobia, notably his financial support of that cause, I haven't purchased a book by him in fifteen years. The books I read of his are still good though. Please don't buy them.

I’ve never been in denial about it but I do think today was the first day I truly realized how much antisemitism is spreading and being normalized in online far-left circles. It’s scary and frightening and is only going to get worse if the left insists it’s not a problem.

The "all anti-Zionism is always and forever antisemitism" people and the "all antisemitism becomes fine if we just say it's anti-Zionism, even if we're ranting about the Talmud" people reinforce one another, even if both sides utterly fail to see it.
