Walked into Target to discover a full-on Transformers: The Movie 40th anniversary display. I was literally rendered speechless. My wife says my reaction was hilarious.

Target shelf display for Transformers the Movie 40th anniversary “apology tour” merch, complete with branded display banner.

Here’s the thing about Y2K, the ozone layer, etc. The most leftist—in the sense of *valuing labor*—thing you can do is reject the brainwashing that tells you that heroism is running into a burning building and not the slow, patient, boring, unglamorous work of *preventing* disaster.

I think a lot of people would have died without the work of people like you. The power grid could have gone down, air traffic control, supply chains, medical equipment, water infrastructure… You prevented a disaster. That is heroism. Heroism doesn’t always have to be running into a burning building

there's this sense that every opinion exists along the spectrum of a political alignment chart so there's genuine stakes involved in having one, and i think partly that's because the microblog medium actively resists conversations any more complex than that

I also want to add that every single time ICE has physically hurt me, they have grabbed me by my chest. Most of my femme friends have said the same. I will not be surprised if / when we find out about twisted sexual assaults conducted by ICE agents with these gloves.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social · 2mo ago

Wow. Proponents of the ICE taser gloves are openly saying that one reason they love the gloves is that they doesn’t leave any marks or proof that they were used, making it harder for people to sue when they’re shocked excessively.

For about 5 years, my wife sold and shipped out nerdy crafts. She got her supplies from ULine because she knew them from her job in small business operations. Then one day we looked at the front matter of their catalog and were like "uh, these folks are FUCKED UP"

ProPublica@propublica.org · 2mo ago

That cardboard box in your home is fueling election denial... A boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country. (Published 2022)

Sitting at a restaurant, a pair of college-aged girls in the booth behind me. One of them has, cheerfully, used the term “fuckass” in their conversation more times than I’d previously heard collectively, ever. This is what you miss when wearing headphones. This is the music of the people.

Some future US president, and really every one of us, should travel the world begging forgiveness for these unpardonable sins, and exacting righteous fire and brimstone vengeance upon their perpetrators.

This wasn't even something I thought about until we started looking to buy a house. I was walking about one, starting to comment on what I liked and disliked, and my agent shushed me, pointed to a camera, and said not to say a word until we were outside lest the sellers use it when negotiating.

Another AI casualty. 😕 An entire anthology was cancelled and *an entire imprint* was shut down because they were flooded with AI stories and couldn't fully verify which ones were written by humans. 😭 RIP, "Tales From Sherwood Forest." RIP, "Myths & Legends" imprint. 1/3 🧵

Email screenshot:

"Thank you for your submission to "The Gren-Wode: Tales From Sherwood Forest". It is with sadness that I am writing to you to let you know that we will not be moving forward with the anthology (or with the "Myths & Legends" imprint in general).

The landscape of open submissions for fiction and poetry has shifted over the past few years. No more so, in our experience, than with this anthology. We have been flooded with a large volume of clear AI/LLM submissions. We have also received a lot of submissions that feel like they are in a gray area where they are likely AI/LLM created or assisted. The increased volume may be timing and the state of submissions in the fiction world right now, or it may be due in part to the fact that we were focusing on characters and stories that are already in the public domain and have a large volume of material already scraped into generative tooling. It is a simple thing to spit out variations, and it seems that many people out there have realized this.

It is a core part of our mission to support human expression and connection; not commerce, not clever machine rearrangement, etc. As a result, we have come to the difficult decision to cancel this and future publications from this imprint. We appreciate your time, your interest, your support, and are very sorry that things have gone this way.

Best wishes,
Sloum"

Happy 40th to Transformers: The Movie! A childhood favorite that still “hits like a truck.” Revisiting my old Criterion-style design from the Bendis Board era (IYKYK), with updated art from my archived 2021 TF: The Movie print called, “Negative Space.” Til all are one!

"You have no way of knowing how much your life and your actions mean to other people. It's one of life's mysteries that we go around helping and inspiring each other, often in ways we are totally unaware of. You also have no way of knowing what you will create or what your creations will lead to."

I talk about reasons not to quit in the latest edition of Hanne Blank Boyd's awesome newsletter! rntq.substack.com/p/we-go-arou...

SPREAD FAR AND WIDE. Multiple calls lately, looking for scarce books. "The cheapest copy online is $200!" Book prices are artificially inflated now due to AI purchasing 🚨 An INDIE BOOKSHOP can tell you whether the current price is reasonable or whether you should wait for the market to stabilize.

Generative AI psychosis and delusion is a real thing, as is the degradation of analytical skills. This increasingly makes conversations difficult with those who have "converted" to using it. Along with the clickbait-ification of everything and the adoption of predatory logarithms. Stay vigilant.

I had to code and pronounce a time of death on a respiratory therapist colleague. There's a memorial plaque for her outside the emergency department to this day. I wrote and re-wrote my will. I will never forgive these ghouls trying to rewrite history and deny our experience.

RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>

it’s never a great sign for your society when all the competent people who believe in doing a good job for the sake of it conclude that they’re actively being punished for these qualities, while malignantly stupid criminals are making bank
