The nature of human rights is that they are rarely upheld, and always need defending. We have them to the degree to which we are able to back up the demand for enforcing them, and when we fall short of that no matter what the law says on paper, it doesn't happen in reality. That's basic.

Damaging new guidance from the EHRC will shut out Trans people from daily life simply for existing, and anyone who doesn't conform to narrow ideas of how people should look could face suspicion and confrontation. We are taking a stand against this attack on human rights.
It remains illegal to discriminate against trans people or anyone you think might be trans. Inter alia, we retain the human rights to privacy.
Audio dramas have really taken off in the last decade. Not only are more people listening, but loads more people are getting involved. Lots of brilliant indie productions, but also lots of household acting names are getting into audio work. It's unfortunate that it's in part due to lockdowns.
It's A Superpower?? is very funny, & painfully insightful. I've been yeeting it at every ND person I know. But can I also say; audio dramas are fantastic, everyone should be listening to more of them.
Those were fun times. It was great watching trolls and clout boosters spinning helplessly as tens of thousands of users blocked them on sight instead of giving them the engagement they so desperately wanted.
Bluesky oldheads will remember that brief period of time when the conservative trolls tried to storm the place and were flummoxed by the idea they would have to organically grow an audience and that someone who didn't want to talk to them could nuke every interaction they ever had from orbit

"How would you say your condition affects your daily life?" Well, I just walked all the way to the post box to post this form about how my condition affects my daily life, having to stop to catch my breath twice, and found I'd forgotten the form. Now I'm too tired to do the journey again.
No matter how smart you think you are, you’re only one really exhausted bad day away from clicking a bad link. Anyone who thinks they’re too smart to have this happen to them is just proving how little critical thinking they possess.
i love how people always forget that theres absolutely a scam that will work on them and then get all high and mighty about anyone who fell for a scam they wouldnt fall for
Every time you use genAI, you're supporting an ongoing genocide in Congo. Earlier this year, the US and UAE (which is, with our help, also committing genocide in Sudan) created a paramilitary force to ensure the flow of cobalt and rare earth minerals extracted by child slaves to create GPUs.
Congo Plans Paramilitary Unit for Mines with US, UAE Funding
The Democratic Republic of Congo will create a paramilitary unit to police its mines with funding from the US and the United Arab Emirates, the country’s General Inspectorate of Mines said.

A white supremacist superpower has been ruthlessly and sadistically oppressing a nearby developing island nation – that’s never committed an offense against it – for decades. For absolutely no rational, justifiable reason whatsoever.

the people attacking trans kids are just as much science deniers as anti-vaxxers and flat-earthers, and so-called moderates should start treating them as such
Another study on youth transition that find that about 97% of all youth who says they're trans turn out to be. Only 1.1% who start HRT stopped it for any reason whatsoever. This is, like, the fifth youth transition study that I'm aware of, and all of their results have been identical.
The biggest issue I have with #TheVampireLestat is that he has not described a single table in ridiculous, almost sensual detail.
never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.
Lots of people replying/quoting this with jokes about dinosaurs/jurassic park/etc and it’s a good time for a favorite fun fact: all birds are literally a branch of theropod dinosaurs that split off from other theropods in the Jurassic period. They look like dinosaurs because they are dinosaurs.
Today I learned that baby cranes are called "colts" because their legs are so long and they can run around like idiots shortly after hatching. This is delightful, I enjoy knowing this.

Apple charges people ~20% more than the Patreon list price and they keep the difference for themselves. They also hold the proceeds of iOS app sales for 75 days, making it impossible for creators to accurately predict earnings. They basically inserted themselves in order to rip *more* people off
Any of you using the ios version of Patreon to support me, switch to the browser version instead, cuz the apple fees have actually taken over 3000 usd from me in the course of a year
Given AI is now integrated in popular writing tools and mandated at many workplaces, every piece of human output can legitimately be suspected of being AI assisted. Minorities will bear the brunt of consequences and accusations here as our culture of double standards and DEI witch-hunts have shown.
A Nigerian born author, Jerry Falade, had his $2.4M book deal pulled because he was accused of using AI. There is unavoidable optics of a Black man writing a brilliant novel that people assume must have been written by AI. However the broader issue is we can’t trust any writing isn’t AI generated.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
