I just think the "why can't we have new stuff" argument is not reflective of Hollywood's history. THE WIZARD OF OZ was based one existing IP and itself a remake. GONE WITH THE WIND was based on a popular book. MALTESE FALCON (1941) was based on a book and a remake of a film from 10 years earlier.

She isn’t making an argument against blockbuster movies tho? “the number of remakes and sequels remains steady if not increases year over year, why does our current era feel staler than ever?” “Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a silly movie, especially in summer”

And yet—why can't we have new stuff? The nostalgia glut is bad for movies, and it's bad for us. Neary everybody on the planet right now seems to be living with the idea that things were better 4-or 10, or 20, or 40—years ago. We were doing better financially; movies, books, and music were more original and fun; we were just having a much better time overall. Where did all that go? It's natural for us to want to regress to that state of bliss, even if things weren't really as great as we remember them. No wonder Hollywood thinks the best strategy is to help us turn back the clock.

This is clearly Lex's point of view, not Gunn's. He's not saying "superman is chatgpt" but this type of flawed analogy is always how Lex has viewed superman. As someone he thinks "cheated" and didnt earn his power. If this was some kind of pro AI stance he wouldn’t call AI out for being a shortcut

I know it’s very in vogue to act like the trilogy was only about Star Wars itself (very bad take), but the entire FO conflict is about how ignoring the legacy of fascism enables its return. It’s about how the younger generations have to pick up the slack because the older generations got complacent.

Today I retire from Wizards of the Coast after 28 years. With D&D’s 50th anniversary wrapping up and the revised rulebooks doing gangbusters, this is the perfect fairytale ending for me. I can’t wait to enjoy D&D purely as a fan again, knowing the game is in good hands. See you in the Feywild!
