Asheesh Kapur Siddique@asheeshks.org · 3w agoWe know how to teach books in the age of AI: small classes, close reading, research-engaged learning (which is how you ’let students see you struggle’). The issue is nobody will hire and pay the requisite # of faculty to offer this.
A thing I am learning from the Patton Oswalt post is that people outside of the Twin Cities still want to believe that they know what happened here and how it changed people and they have absolutely no idea.
“There’s a literacy crisis!” Teachers: We know! Help us! Read with your kids! Allow less screen time at home! Go to school board meetings! Demand a return to phonics! Push for less tech at the elementary level! “Nah. We’re just going to keep blaming public school teachers.”
