Trump already tried to do a coup. We should prepare for the worst. I've heard that Democratic officials are already gaming this out, but if they aren't, they should be getting regular presentations from veterans of Color Revolutions and other mass pro-democracy protests.
I’m not a doomer, but we have seen Trump inflict suffering on millions in Iran and consolidate its hardline regime because he was hyped up after the “easy” Venezuela operation. He’s suggested regime change in Cuba. Who knows what he might try in our elections with all the power at his disposal?
A retired judge advocate explains how a future administration could decide who to prosecute for the illegal strikes on alleged drug-trafficking boats.
How to Choose Which Military Members to Hold Accountable for Illegal Boat Strikes

Nobody is impressed by prevarication. There is no political advantage to lacking the courage of your convictions. Thank goodness this era of democratic politics is ending.
WHOA! Nancy Pelosi says she will vote for Massie's amendment to withhold arms from Israel despite calling it "ill-conceived!" "The American people are rightly demanding an end to a perpetual cycle of war, and the Netanyahu government cannot maintain its current course. "
Gender-affirming care for me, not for thee
I’m going to become the joker.
An incredible euphemism here for “the government is doing illegal discrimination”
"Members of the group Patriot Front ride the metro as a commuter looks on, during the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence in Washington, D.C., U.S., July 4, 2026. REUTERS/Cheney Orr"
Patriot front marching from Union Station right now. White supremacist and neo-fascist organization. Cowards.
As a teacher, I assigned papers on nonlinear escalation but honestly students would have gotten a better understanding from readings on gender and fascism.
VP Vance on recent U.S. strikes:
Expanding the Supreme Court is the moderate position.
Under section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, that’s supposed to be the ballgame.
I just want to add, since this is breaking containment, that this can't be made right. these people, each one a whole universe, are gone. there can only be justice for the perpetrators; public remorse & restitution; & reform to ensure future aid systems are more just and less prone to imperial whims
“The dismantling of USAID, according to models from Boston University epidemiologist Brooke Nichols, “has already caused the deaths of six hundred thousand people, two-thirds of them children,” Gawande wrote.” hsph.harvard.edu/news/usaid-s...
Why it matters: when the paper of record calls your existence a debate, that framing doesn't stay on the page. Republican officials, judges, Supreme Court justices, and anti-trans groups have all cited the Times to justify stripping trans rights. The coverage by the paper of record matters.
It wasn't just framing. It was who got to speak. As coverage turned, trans voices in the stories dropped sharply while opponents of trans rights rose. By 2026, opponents were quoted more often than trans people themselves. Trans people were spoken about, not to.
The utter failure of this war - and the surrender document Trump just signed - was completely predictable. This war was unwinnable and that's why so many of us opposed it from the start.
If you want to understand what the US is doing to Cuba right now as a result of the complete energy blockade since the beginning of the year. apnews.com/article/cuba...
You know what’s also a time-honored tradition? Voting on whether or not to authorize a war.
Happy National Seersucker Day! Great to join my colleagues from both sides of the aisle in kicking off summer with this time-honored tradition.
This, side by side with news that the US may have killed victims of human trafficking in an illegal boat strike. The United States has a deep and abiding war crimes problem. It is morally intolerable. Demand that any national candidate have a plan for accountability and reform.
NEW: Our visual analysis suggests the U.S. hit two drinking-water facilities overnight in southern Iran with precision-guided munitions. Deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure could constitute a war crime. w/ @ckoettl.bsky.social @johnismay.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2026/06/10/w...

I've spent months speaking to current & retired Black service members about being part of the military in this political moment. What I found were officers and soldiers despondent at the resurgence of racism, yet often insistent that they were fighting for what this country could be, not what it is.
The Betrayal of Black Patriots
They devoted their lives to serving the United States. Now the nation’s top military leader is sending the message that they’re not welcome.

“study of around 8,000 respondents concludes that women’s lower uptake of generative AI tools has little to do w/ skills or access. Instead, it is driven largely by how women perceive the broader societal risks associated w/ the new technology.”🧪 @josiecox.bsky.social
New research shows women are more likely to worry about the impact of new technologies.
NEW report shows Trump is spending $1 billion a day on war with Iran while military families pay the price at home. With sky-high grocery prices, military families are relying on local food pantries and emergency grocery support programs to put food on the table. Disgraceful.
Not enough news coverage of how the insurrectionist reparations fund is a clear violation of the 14th Amendment. We need to enforce the Constitution in its original meaning and plain text. You can't imagine away parts of the Constitution just because it is politically inconvenient.
Given the argument that ended the VRA, I think it’s time liberals did some self reflection about the now decades long obsession with partisan polarization as the problem, as opposed to authoritarianism, extremism, oligarchy, and racism
as long as john roberts has his majority, there is simply no pro democracy reform that will survive the supreme court. none.
