To argue that Rowling should be seen as a moderate, rational voice bc she's okay with trans people desisting and renouncing "trans ideology" is zero different from declaring the Spanish Inquisition moderate and rational since they were willing to leave Jews alive if we converted & renounced Judaism.
She wants no trans ppl to exist. She's taking away the necessities of trans survival. She's taking away the ability of the gov't to even recognize trans ppl as trans. The fact that she says she'd be happy to have trans people desist instead of die does not count as a point in her favour.
Her entire world view is incompatible with trans existence, but -- BUT! -- she would be happy to have all trans people survive if only they were cis and agreed with her that trans ppl are demonic threats to real women everywhere. Come the fuck on. She wants no trans ppl to exist.
When thinking about this piece (or, g-d forbid, reading it -- but please don't unless you need to for your work), the helpful analogy is a Christian nationalist who says Islam is fundamentally at odds with Western Civ & we need a world with no muslims saying she doesn't want muslims exterminated.
