The US clings to it's "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" or worse, "It is broke, but only effects poor people, so don't fix it" mentality. People warned that handling infrastructure this way is a national security risk but major expenditures for the public good is basically taboo at this point.

At the meeting we got the standard "oh we don't know the potential but we feel like we need to be part of the future" or some such nonsense. Staff asked directly about the harms, etc. The answer was pretty mealy-mouthed.

If all of the intrusive, mediocre, copyright-violating, resource-hogging, no-one-asked-for-this AI tools were "suddenly banned" I imagine that I would dance on their grave in a red dress

I honestly can’t even stretch my imagination to understand HOW they’re using these things or WHAT FOR in the course of a normal workday. Isn’t it just as much work to ask an app to write an email for you as it would be to just write the email? These people are idiots.

I have to admit, if ai disappeared tomorrow I would find it difficult to get a lot done at work. Not because I use the plagiarism grinder for a goddamn thing, but because when it happens I’ll pull something from laughing so hard and so loud.

We all remember life before Al was forced on us. It's only been a couple years.
These people are letting you know that they’ve always cheated. Their eyes have always been on someone else’s paper. They alway bought essays. A subordinate has always done the work their name is slapped on, usually without credit. Chat is a cover for them.
