Well, @jessefarrar.com finally made the big leagues. A mention by the most disgusting man in the NYT opinion section, Ross Douthat www.nytimes.com/2026/08/04/o...

ICE has now spent over $2.2 BILLION on purchasing 4 private prisons from CoreCivic, with the company banking half a billion dollars on the most recent sale. Of course, ICE will not actually operate these facilities; CoreCivic keeps the contracts to run these places for the foreseeable future.
Live Nation is swimming in money that they stole from artists and fans. That they would pretend they need to do cost cutting measures is just insulting.
“Music publications BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver, and Goldmine have been gutted by parent company Veeps... Nearly all the staff at each publication appear to have been laid off yesterday. Veeps, which is now owned by Live Nation, acquired the publications in 2024 or 2025”
BOURDAIN (voiceover): I found myself surrounded by discarded objects. An empty soda can, a dead battery. Life becomes death. But death can become life. The simmering pot with its spicy aroma in front of me is proof. BOURDAIN: What's in this dish? ME: Pikmin BOURDAIN: Pikmin. Oh man that's good.
i remember there was a streamer who said that he’d vote for Jeffrey Epstein if he were the Democratic nominee that very recently pivoted to “well Abdul has gotta earn my vote” god it’s so fucking funny how washed they are
It bears noting that all the pro-Palestine socialists winning their primaries (and generals) are especially impressive because they're working uphill against the overwhelming propaganda machines constructed in favor of Israel and against socialism for nearly a century by the richest people alive.
Centrists quickly pulling all their memes from 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024 into Photoshop to edit them to read: Vote Blue[?] No[!] [M̶a̶t̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶W̶h̶o̶]
if you voted for Haley Stevens you should have to wear a giant Arby’s hat for the rest of your life as punishment
Not only was she loudly right about everything and reviled for it, in 2017 O'Connor donated 30 years worth of clothes and makeup to trans girls in Ireland.

Whether or not El Sayed wins, it really speaks volumes about public sentiment toward Israel that even despite what at this point is undeniably the largest and most aggressive and well-funded propaganda campaign in world history, people are still opting in large numbers to say "fuck that".
Also in today's HW an excerpt from Blizzard of Lies: Karen Read, John O'Keefe, and the Shocking Unsolved Murder in Cop Town, USA by the prolific Dave Wedge. It's about as quintessential a "true crime" story as they come and a real fucking page-turner kid. www.welcometohellworld.com/blizzard-of-...

They’re calling it the most theater kid story of all time
in insane local news, the 26 year old director of a rocky horror production was arrested for sending threatening messages to himself in order to get the play shut down bc he didn’t want to deal with cast drama www.mynbc5.com/article/rock...
To be very clear, extrajudiciously killing people you suspect are drug traffickers is *also* murder
The US military’s strikes on alleged drug boats have likely illegally killed “individuals who are not involved in narcotrafficking,” Sen. Tim Kaine told the White House, following “a careful review” of classified information he has seen so far.
I have to say, it's really funny watching all the "vOtE bLuE nO mAtTeR wHo" liberals claim El Sayed will lose in the general—an outcome only possible if centrists like them refuse en masse to vote for him.
there is an entire industry of people who give their opinion or predict how things are going to go and their entire job is to be correct are they ever correct? rarely. are there repercussions for being wrong, the thing they are being paid not to be? haha no, no there are not
Everyone hates it when their opponent just leaves the game before it's over, so I've been trying to find ways to soften the blow a little bit. #fightinggame #gamemaker #indiedev
The ownership class at this point is doing this fucked-up Joker “ha-HAA are you gonna kill us yet? Are you?? How about NOW???” thing and then they’re gonna act all indignant and incensed the next time someone shoots a CEO in broad daylight.
we need a strong republican party and a bipartisan MAHA movement and common sense trans sports bans and a bailout for havana syndrome victims. we need a big tent democratic party that includes war criminals and the lady at the the wellness store trying to get your mom off chemo
"The idea of society may sound appealing, but it's old men who will take the hit, planting trees under whose shade they might never sit."
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
This will be the US if the SCREEN Act passes. Call your Senators before August 5 and tell them that you oppose the SCREEN Act, KOSA, and the KIDS Act. Use the official lookup tool at www.senate.gov/senators/sen... to find yours by state.
That Dem leadership isn't vocally opposing data center construction, an slam dunk 80/20 split across the spectrum, is merely the latest thing that tells you all you need to know about the positions they supposedly take only ~reluctantly~ re: immigration, trans rights, etc.
This was somehow much, much weirder than I was expecting even armed with the description in the post quoted below. Respect.
If you've ever wondered what AC Slater is up to aside from being MAGA, turns out he's posting weird AI fetish content about his niece....?
This is of course correct. No one was "locked down." The very week cuomo shut down the state, i went to the supermarket around the corner from patient zero in NY & it was open for business. (My bright idea was they would have bread when others didnt and i was right lol) bsky.app/profile/luck...
Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.
Another entry in the list of people who aren't worth talking about politics with are people who hate the outcomes of our government but who balk at any suggestion that we do anything meaningful or substantial to change our government out of some weird reverence to the Founding Fathers.
