University business services make me write a justification for not choosing a flight that leaves at 5am with a 35 minute connection in a massive airport. These judges (and their staff) should be able to come up with a few paragraphs of legal reasoning.

Judges are expected to write opinions not only for the sake of precedent, but b/c written opinions act as judicial guardrails. They help keep judges from making arbitrary or insufficiently considered opinions because they have to provide some coherent explanation for their conclusion.

stuff like this is why one important avenue for court reform is just nixing the shadow docket altogether and forcing these people to explain themselves to the public when they issue orders. also, making their records property of the united states and subject to publication when they leave the bench.

When the rubble clears, there are so many people who spent time and money helping Platner, believing that he was a once in a lifetime talent. People who quit their jobs to work for him; spent cold weekends knocking doors for him; told their friends to check him out. He really humiliated them.
