anti-casteist, science, code, machines, privacy, ancient history, yak shaving, and bad puns;

Where will Mark Carney cave next, to which pressure group? As we enter into an era where trans rights are under attack and queer rights are very likely next on the chopping block, will Carney actually stand up for us? @journodale.bsky.social asks. xtramagazine.com/power/politi...

Mark Carney is set to fold on trade. What’s next? | Xtra Magazine

If the prime minister is willing to cave on this issue, it seems reasonable to expect there will be others down the line

This reminds me of when I had to read Leonard Woolley's report on the excavations at Ur in Southern Iraq and rather than give credit to or name most of the people doing the actual labour on his dig, he spent a big chunk of his time insulting their work ethic.

For too long, the people who have done the real work of archaeology have not been recognised. At Dura-Europos in Syria, one of the ways this is evident is in the lack of credit given, or even names recorded, for the many workers there.

Recently heard an elected official say "AI adoption is not political" and it is still playing on loop in my mind

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that defeating students who make memes using Fanon is well nigh impossible. I respect the person who made this edit. They had to read Fanon thoroughly to create this brilliant exposé. There’s hope in our little corners. The ultimate villain sequence is 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

As anyone in publishing will tell you, women do not resist reading books by men, but men will often dismiss books by women. This is not a publishing problem or a failure to target men. It's a misogyny problem.

Big story out this morning by @lilypolenchuk.bsky.social and @readtheorchard.org 🔥 Coincidentally, David Slater and I will be citing this in a related scoop for @breachmedia.ca - watch for that soon! www.readtheorchard.org/p/alberta-mi...

This smells like the work of a crisis comms firm. "Small fringe group"? Here's what the federal transport minister actually said on Friday when citing the 87,000 responses to the public consultation. And he actually cited elevated noise & negative environmental & housing impacts. #OnPoli #ToPoli

"However, we will not pursue any plans that infringe on treasured public spaces like Little Norway Park or Hanlan’s Point Beach, result in elevated noise, have significant environmental impacts, or hinder Toronto’s ability to build much-needed housing,”

NEW: Ontario’s transportation minister says the Ford government will not repeal the legislation that expropriated the Toronto island airport. Sarkaria also chastised the federal government for giving into a “fringe group” of Toronto residents globalnews.ca/news/11996784/… #onpoli

Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.

DHH tweet saying “This is why we need competition and open weights in Al. Imagine a world where only Anthropic sat as the moral arbiter of acceptable speech. Fucking ridiculous. (Grok of course did it no problem, same too with Kimi K).” when presented with his blog post using a slur about the Roma people.
