you can build a bunker for you and your retainers & you can hoard your power & fame, you can worship nothing but ambition or status and stand by while people you might be able to help--in big ways or small ways--go without. Or you can be Dolly. All these things are choices. She made good ones.

this is probably said a million times already, but try to live your life so that makes others remember you as fondly as Dolly.

Some people might not be aware, but it is entirely possible that without Dolly Parton we wouldn’t have had a COVID vaccine. She partly funded Moderna’s research and gave the largest individual contribution to make it all happen. Just gives you an idea of the kind of person she was.

Scientists published today the world’s first climate attribution study to link major fossil fuel emitters’ emissions to water loss in the Western U.S. Almost half of decreased snowpack and streamflow in the region, they found, is attributable to 122 oil, gas and cement producers.

computers are such a collection of deep topics that setting up systems like NAS backups with RAID etc. is basically technomagic to even 80% of millennial population.

keep coming back to this thought. seriously it would kneecap so many bad actors and dilute power. for perspective, 100m is a single high-rise tower in a major city center or ~20-30 blocks of houses in a well-off suburb. it's still a fucking lot, but not global-damaging-level of dick wagging.

there's some two or three thousand families who own the majority of assets tucked away through dozens of tax loopholes inside corporate books & trusts. wealth taxing them down to a 100m-per-person cap that follows inflation would do untold wonders to the global political system.

one thing I heard recently that I think is going to be critical to deconstructing power from regressives and fascists: "take back control the narrative about Public Safety"

carefully wording posts with several revisions just so I can leave a single silly wrong word or extra word in order to signal to friends and family that bots haven't busted through my complex defenses and are posting on my account while wearing my underpants.

so much of discworld is about stories, and how they work, and who is telling them, and why, and what they want to accomplish and maybe nowhere in the entire series is that better interrogated than by a small inquisitive girl named Tiffany

I can tell we're winning at the end because the regressives I know are no longer trumpeting gleefully and are now defensively arguing "who knows that the real truth is," aka trying to bury their head in their own ass to not see how wrong they are.
