I’ve read that telegraph article on disability, and I think the author’s real view, under all the other justifications they throw in there, can be neatly summed up by this final paragraph - disabled people are too visible now and some even look happy at times

Nathan Cofnas and the US Ambassador to Belgium say that the University of Ghent have now lifted his suspension, thanking the US government for supporting him (with threats of retaliation). The Ambassador says that Cofnas will be able to complete his one year appointment to March 2027.

I know its naive to expect better of the Labour Party if you have even a passing familiarity with their long history, but there is still something outstandingly depressing to watch them repeatedly abandon the goal of 'bread and roses' for simply 'more work'.

I can't believe the amount of recent history revisionism in the UK. Response to Polish immigration was so severe that it successfully led to Brexit. BREXIT. And tanked British economy. This happened last decade, you can just Google it.

Remember when they sold us the slogan, "Go paperless, save trees, save the planet"? Now we've gone digital, and it's consuming enormous amounts of water, destroying ecosystems, harming bees, and contributing to environmental damage on a scale paper never did.

Aside from the issue of courses closing so these students can't study what they want/need, I just find it incredibly sad that the formative experience of almost-independence is being denied to young people. Living in halls, negotiating with room mates, cooking for yourself, budgeting. Crucial skills

I get sent drafts of writings from colleague which sometimes have the date in the file name, so free early 2000s tip for you: put the date in Japanese (YYYYMMDD) format at the beginning, and then you can sort your drafts alphabetically by date.

Not the main takeaway point here, of course, (and JB shows her colours as ableist as well as a TERF) but every time I see that woman's byline on anything my first thought is always: "Thank goodness the surname is spelt differently, definitely no relation..."

I will finish here: practically all university year 1 is spent trying to undo some of the damage done by the current system. That is a rather inconvenient detail if we're going to extol the virtues of mass standardised testing as the only metric by which success is measurable.
