@nextdoorsv.bsky.social This one's for you. In answer to a question about whether pro-housing laws are popular in California: "Nextdoor is the voice of the community."

@nextdoorsv.bsky.social This is an actual human being, not ChatGPT, extolling the scenic beauty of ... a parking lot? Other similar asphalt-kissers laud parking lots as "public lane" in need of protection.
The San Jose City Council is considering an appeal of a 12 townhouse project. The appellants say there is not enough parking. The project provides 3.5 spaces per townhouse! (Sitting in Council chambers waiting for the item about citywide upzoning of all SFH zones.)
Drivers only respond to risks they view as credible. Killing people by way of dangerous or distracted driving is not considered credible, as they are all great drivers. But fear of tickets & of scratching their cars work wonders in terms of modifying their near constant lawlessness and risk-taking.
The moderator, who despite appearances is not a car, is here describing an open-air marketplace crammed with pedestrians walking around. I feel like the mystery would be enhanced if pedestrians too were allow to wield deadly weapons, that might at any moment kill a driver.
The moderator launches into a mini-lecture. Says restricting cars eliminates the “sense of theater, mystery and surprise…the visual and aural stimulation” that makes the market special.
Driver: I keep getting parking tickets because I park illegally. This is not my fault and I should be allowed to dump my car anywhere I want. @nextdoorsv.bsky.social
Listening to an approval hearing for a Builder's Remedy project in Los Altos. It's just venting. The Planning Commissioners are sad the applicant didn't comply with the city's standards. Maybe it has something to do with the applicants unsuccessfully trying to move the project forward since 2015.
My blog post on building code reform went up on YIMBY Action's main blog. yimbyaction.org/blog/beyond-... Many thanks to @kevinrmatthews.bsky.social, @robertagreer.bsky.social, and @stephenjacobsmith.com for your assistance on this!

You can't have government subsidized street parking AND safe streets. You can't have government subsidized street parking AND affordable housing. You can't have government subsidized street parking AND solve climate change. But drivers, of course, view street parking as their social security:
NEW BLOG POST! Some thoughts on Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey, the historical context of the Bronze Age Collapse, the Sea Peoples, and the legends of the Trojan War, and whether Nolan's movie is "historically accurate" or not, and what that even means.
Did Odysseus Cause the Bronze Age Collapse?
We were all set for The Odyssey to be our summer discourse. Battle lines had been drawn, takes had been prepared. Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s 8th century BCE epic poem was…

This is a funny and very typical op-ed in that the author repeatedly emphasizes he is NOT a NIMBY while checking off the full gamut of standard NIMBY talking points one by one. www.aol.com/news/not-nim...
“You don’t have to scream, lady, you could just let me hit you.”
“You don’t have to scream, lady” is a thing a driver had the gall to say when I yelled “hey!” as he was about to make a left turn across the path of a pedestrian, a scooter user & me. I doubt asking nicely would’ve gotten him to stop.
can’t believe a narcissist is being so publicly humiliated by a reflecting pool

Get rid of the grand jurors who refuse to indict, now you have a majority to indict. How can anyone think that's legal? How????
Here's the part where the prosecutors identify the grand jurors who won't vote to indict, then dismiss them one by one so they can secure an indictment from those who remain (you need a minimum of 16) www.documentcloud.org/documents/28...

A city allowed a new shiny expensive apartment tower to be built, and through six levels of moving chain, a mother got to move out of a shelter into her own cheaper apartment, and regained custody of her son. More Housing, Faster. So kids get out of foster care and back to their moms.
youtu.be/QQYMUMTI7fk?... Economic research shows that building new market-rate homes can start chains of moves that ultimately free up much cheaper ones. Here, Pew trace a real-life chain starting with a luxury building and ending with a low-income family being able to reunite in a home of their own
On its third attempt tonight, Marblehead Town Meeting approved an “MBTA Communities–compliant” district largely centered on the 125-year-old Tedesco Country Club, meeting 3A requirements on paper while all but assuring no new housing would be built. This comment says it all.
Also, this is a universal truth we should all really wrap our heads around: if people are trying to do bad-faith reading of your words to find material to get angry about, THEY WILL SUCCEED. You cannot ever communicate in a way that prevents this. Defensive writing is a fools' errand.
