This is another way we live in rape culture; we live in a culture where we have to hear about monstrosity all the time. Sometimes I look at those top stories lists and wonder if I'm the only one who notices that two or three or four of the ten are about violence against women.
It's demoralizing living in a nonstop Abuse-a-thon: we've had to learn the sordid details of so many men's abhorrent behavior; I mean this summer has been Graham Platner, Andrew Tate, Jared Leto, Max Miller, plus the horrific L.A. rape-murder of the child by the rapper, to name a few lowlights.
There are more people who've parlayed middling athletic prospects into profitable careers decrying the inclusion of trans women in sports than there are trans women in sports.
chopping it up with the transphobes before the Fire-Fever game on Friday really hammered this home: they want to endlessly "debate" abstract gender concepts because they have absolutely no way to implement any kind of sports-gender policy that doesn't require a whole lot of child genital inspection

A good commissioner steps in now before every WNBA game becomes a rightwing performance space, like school board meetings were during peak CRT. You just have to throw the hammer down on this. Do not give them an inch.

It's weird, when you look back on the coverage of Jackie Robinson integrating Major League Baseball, there weren't a lot of these sympathetic pieces about the fans practicing their rights of freedom of speech by screaming the N-word at him. Progress!

Sarahdactyl@sarahdactyl.bsky.social · 3mo agoMosquitos have blood type preferences, so in places that are largely homogeneous, they'll all have a preference for a particular blood type from what I understand. When I was in China I got no bites, meanwhile my Type B friends got eaten alive.
Enjoyed the list, read some, not others, & agree with this. But a best novel list that skips Sandra Boynton's Hippos Go Berserk! just isn't serious
