SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

Video of an ICE agent pulling a gun on a wife and mother, who is a US citizen born and raised in the area, near Bailey's Crossroads in Northern Virginia yesterday. Chillingly, they claimed she “almost ran them over” until she told them she had video proving that was a lie.

This is my final word on the Moda Center saga. This Wednesday, the vote to spend $1.1B of taxpayer funds is going to pass. If you think you ever had a say in the matter, you were lied to. Everyone got what they wanted in the end. Everyone but you. www.ripcitynotripoff.com/everyone-but...

Everyone But You: how Portland promised $573 million in rooms the public never entered

The league was in the room. The team was in the room. Three governments were in the room. 8,000 pages of the City's own records show who wasn't — and what it cost.

The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor

The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

"More than half of the children with deportation orders are representing themselves in immigration courts, according to data from the DOJ... Of the 751,861 children with pending removal cases, 57 percent, or 425,093 of them, do not have lawyers"

I’m less than 100 new Portland donors away from reaching the next tier of small donor elections, so if you or someone in your household hasn’t donated, now would be a good time 😉 Through the small donor elections program, your small donations are multiplied! $5 = $55 $10 = $110 $25 = $275

Reflecting on my first year as a city councilor, and I’m so proud of what my team and I have accomplished, and we’re just getting started. I banned rental price fixing, created fees for landlords who want to profit off detention facilities (like ICE) secure.actblue.com/donate/angel...

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote: https://propub.li/4veRIqA

Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

Two people who were hired to gather signatures for a Portland ballot initiative that would use clean energy funds to hire police say they were trained to mislead the public about the proposal. At least one person has already detailed their concerns about the campaign in a state ethics complaint.

NEW: We obtained bodycam footage showing ICE violently arresting farm workers in Oregon and using a facial recognition app to try to ID them. The officers later admitted they had no warrants and no idea who the people were when they stopped them. Four of the workers were later deported.

This story is WILD. Juan Orlando Hernandez, the Honduran ex-president pardoned by Trump for narcotrafficking, seemingly caught on tape in dozens of conversations (if true), discussing plans with GOP and other figures to attack left-wing governments, and saying Israel paid for his pardon from Trump.

🤬 Sneaking in millions in tax breaks that go through the 2040s and 2050s is clearly a violation of the intent of the legislature's moratorium on any new tax breaks for data centers. This is taking money from schools, housing and other critical needs. I urge Hillsboro City councilors to stop this.

Tech companies are rushing to lock in tax breaks before a moratorium on data center incentives takes effect next month.

THREAD: Cherise Doyley was in her 12th hour of contractions at the hospital when a tablet was brought to her bedside. On the screen was a Zoom call with a judge and several lawyers and doctors. She was in court, a nurse told her. The reason? For failing to agree to a C-section.
