This is the sort of development we should be encouraging across our city. Childcare and housing are both becoming more expensive in Chicago, we need more of them. This woman wants to create both - that should be celebrated by the city! Instead her alderman is trying to crush her local investment.

The zoning committee is live. This public commenter said she just got a type 1 zoning change last year to B2-3 in order to build a mixed use daycare with housing on top that she would live in. Shes invested 150k into the project She's saying that the alderman is trying to downzone the property now!

In my mind, people need to re-frame the issue when it comes to public grocery stores. All of the mega corps are vertically integrated. A state run food distribution corporation could change the economics that small grocers and butchers face that ultimately crush them.

Hear me out. What if instead of selling food below cost to all comers at taxpayer expense, then using more taxpayer dollars to subsidize private companies that can't compete, we had a program targeting nutritional assistance just to the people who needed it, as a sort of supplement?

Video of an ICE agent pulling a gun on a wife and mother, who is a US citizen born and raised in the area, near Bailey's Crossroads in Northern Virginia yesterday. Chillingly, they claimed she “almost ran them over” until she told them she had video proving that was a lie.
