I study Archean fossils to understand the coevolution of Earth and life and inform the search for life on other planets + philosophy of science. She/her.

I teach this when I cover climate change in "Intro to Geoscience Education". The class is for education (not science) majors, and the students appreciate the historical context regarding our knowledge of the greenhouse effect. I think they view the "controversy" a little differently afterwards.

“An atmosphere of that gas would give to our earth a high temperature” An alumnus of the School Emma Willard founded (☝️), The Troy Female Seminary, was Eunice Newton Foote who in 1856 published the first ever scientific paper to show atmospheric CO2 absorbed heat causing a greenhouse effect. 🧪 🌎

A page from a scientific paper titled Circumstances affecting the Heat of the Sun published in The American Journal of Science in 1856.

My husband and I met during a summer ecology class at KBS when we were undergrads at MSU way back in 2003 AND this class takes place during our wedding anniversary. We are also big aquatic plant nerds. Sadly, we can't make it to this class, so some happy couple better attend in our honor!

Want to learn your Michigan aquatic plants? Like, really learn them? There are still openings in "Aquatic Plant Identification", a 2-day lab and field course at Kellogg Biological Station, June 17-18. Check it out: www.canr.msu.edu/events/aquat...

Five year old girl on BBC News in item on Artemis II hopes we can find life on other planets so "we can be family with them.." Wish politicians would share her attitude to those who are different.

We’re saying it was science because Science has ALWAYS been capable of horrendous things and implicated in slavery, colonialism, the Holocaust. Not because we believe that racism, ableism etc are scientifically ‘valid’ or ‘defensible’ Begging you to think beyond memes.

You think displaying Savarte Bartmaan naked on stage for to white men ogle and then cutting her up then she died and storing her parts in jars for close to a 100 years was science? J. Marion Simms torturing enslaving Black women was science? You are a sick, bigoted prick

CW: transphobia. See, this is why it can be painful to know too much history.🫤 This post implies that what is happening in Kansas is *similar* to what the nazis did. But it's not just similar. It's *identical*. In 1933, nazis revoked trans people's documents. Before 1938. Paragraph 175 and 183.

In 1938, the German Reich invalidated all German Jewish passports. They must surrender them, after which their ID will mark them as a Jew. In 2026, the state of Kansas invalidated all correct trans drivers licenses. They must surrender them, after which their ID will mark them as trans.

We are a nation in which thousands of Black people were "legally" kidnapped with the assistance of the federal government & sent back into slavery. We are also a nation in which thousands of white & Black people organized in their local communities to try to stop those kidnappings. "We" are both.
