OCEANS 11 isn’t in my Top Ten #Soderbergh but I was Section 8’s sole Story Analyst when it was made, was at the premiere, and like it a lot. Got the Trology Collection bluray and rewatching… DAMN did this start the teal-highlights-w-orange-skin trend of the middling 00s 👀 Wondered where that began 😂
The first step in AAA is admitting your car has a problem
How would I get by without AI? If I need a factually-dubious opinion expressed in a cliched manner with unearned confidence, I’ll just talk to a straight white cis man. I can get by on small-batch, locally-sourced, artisanal mansplaining, the way we always used to.
What about the 5 years it took Meryl Streep to buy VOGUE and learn book-binding for Devil Wears Prada? Or Sally Hawkins not talking for length of her affair with an orca on The Shape Of Water? or Emma Stone having her brain replaced w a baby’s to research Poor Things? Some actors put the work in!

Using high-definition open source videos and photos from NASA and his own music, John Boswell (aka Melodysheep) created this mesmerizing eight-minute video recap of the Artemis II mission. So well done. [kottke.org]

Movie fans need to know Blu-Ray players are *backwards compatible* and play DVDs too. Not just that, they unlock visual & audio data that a standard player can’t process thus upgrading the DVD experience. A Blu-Ray player improves your whole library!
More often than not, these articles fail to even mention that a Blu-ray player, or UHD player, also plays DVDs. Instead, people (young and old alike) are buying DVD players for ~$50 and then finding out that it doesn’t play every type of disc on the market and especially not many new releases
CYCLOPS SCREAMS “POSEIDON” Sailor: It can speak?! Why didn’t it speak to us? Odysseus: Do you speak to ants? Don’t tell me The Odyssey is humorless.
Greatest bass player of all time. I will fight any dissenters. I own nine copies of STOP MAKING SENSE across four different media and I’m not afraid to use em
Talking Heads album Speaking in Tongues on the turntable. Tina Weymouth is the shit.
I was tailgating at a Yankees spring training game in between two families. One family had a rambunctious toddler and the other a cute dog: both were named Jeter.

Bluesky oldheads will remember that brief period of time when the conservative trolls tried to storm the place and were flummoxed by the idea they would have to organically grow an audience and that someone who didn't want to talk to them could nuke every interaction they ever had from orbit
Love this video on the origins of symbols like #, @, &, §, *, ¶, †, and ‡, as well as ☞. Oh, and why we abbreviate pound as “#” and “£” and “lb”. (Without looking, can you name them all?) [kottke.org]
Pilcrow, Dagger, and Octothorp, Oh My!
So, I don’t know what kind of nerd you are, but my brand of nerdiness dovetails neatly with this video about the origins of some of the most common symbols on your keyboard: #, @, &, §, *, ¶, †, and ‡, as well as ☞.

I see a lot of you talking about "dopamine" and I wish you'd go back to talking about your astrological signs because at least then you wouldn't be confusing yourself about a real thing
Proud to ignore the discourse. Fuck the crowd. Embrace the individuals. Talk to people, ignore society. Popularity is toxic under capitalism. Reality is one on one. Talk to strangers.
💯 correct “On Demand” is toxic bullshit that prevents you from leaving the comfort zone, dragging yr own expectations to safe ass mid crap. Nothing beats the thrill of seeing something utterly unknown in a random circumstance that changes your life. Stop watching trailers, embrace the surprise
It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
Super useful. I figure a lot of us here in the Sky know this stuff already, but it might be handy to hand to parents, grandparents and pals who are less technically minded. www.librarian.net/NoToAI/

My most based opinion on BlueSky etiquette is that quote-posting w zero content commentary like “This” or “👇” or “TIL” or “Huh” or “Good point” is essentially stealing Likes & Reposts from the high content post below. Don’t do that just repost!
