The problem with American health care is the insurance companies. That layer of obscene profit, prices based on fixing not competition, entirely opaque costs that can't be compared. Every health insurance company needs to be regulated to within an inch of its life, or one inch further.

Did your library censor Banned Books Week, be it through outright banning, changing of programs, complaints about displays, etc? Tell me about it for a future Book Riot piece. Responses are anonymous. Linked in the survey is last year's piece. tinyurl.com/BannedBooksW...

And yet it REALLY IS easy. Every time we've gotten a new neighbor, we walk over, introduce ourselves, and talk about what we love about where we live. Every time there's an issue, guess who all is outside or texting to make sure everyone's okay and has what they need? It's that straightforward.
More than THINK - people need to ENGAGE. To have a community requires you to show up and participate.
I understand the desire and I appreciate the love for libraries but I am begging you to THINK
The same people begging for this have never showed up in support of their libraries as-is.
"Libraries should be open late as an alternative to the bar" is going around some groups I'm in again and I just Y'all can't convince enough people to fund libraries to be open during the day with reasonable pay and expectations Where do you think you're finding night shift premium pay money
Lately my back doesn’t mind if I am sitting and doesn’t mind if I am standing, but transitioning from one to the other and then it has some real complaints. I feel like a broken transformer. 🤖😖🚗

I'm giving a talk at a librarians conference this week, partially touching upon the history of graphic novels. I have to include this pic from a 2004 NYT profile, a brief moment where it actually felt like comics really weren't going to be "just for kids" anymore www.nytimes.com/2004/07/11/m...
Look, just go buy whatever boulet publishes in a language you understand, you won't regret it. #comics
English-speaking followers! WAIT! *STORY TIME* A few years ago, I met a producer who asked me if I was tempted by the idea of writing for TV, and offered to talk about it around a drink. I spent the whole week thinking about it, took some notes, played a thousand scenes in my head…

In high school I looked around and realized ALL people are pretty weird (especially young people). The kids who thought those were the “best years of their lives” just made me sad.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?
girls only want one thing and it is a single aspect of human life that has not been intentionally made worse in the interest of chasing limitless profit
"You couldn't make a Mel Brooks movie today!" Of course not, nobody would give a Jewish veteran with a controversial Black comedian co-writer, both of whom have overt anti-fascist politics in their acts, a budget to make a parody of a genre nobody watches anymore.

Author Jason Reynolds didn't spend much time in libraries as a child, but as an adult he found an anchoring point in them. Reynolds is the author of many award-winning titles. Two of his books appear on ALA's list of the Top 150 Most Challenged Books https://bit.ly/4jJJxiQ #BannedBooksWeek
The next Democratic president should appoint 700 Supreme Court justices, and during their first session, without warning, they should all swarm Bret Kavanaugh and eat him.
